Four Loko Ban

Yesterday the Governor and State Liqour Control Board decided to ban energy drink/malt liqour combos like the imfamous Four Loko. They did this after nearly a month of pushing for such a ban by Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna.

A few things bother me about this.

1. They did it without the legislatures approval.
2. It is nanny state at its best. McKenna and company are protecting us from ourselves. As adults we should revolt against such government.
3. Do they think are so stupid that we can not mix alcohol with an energy drink on our own?
4. McKenna is most state Republicans favorite to run against Gregoire in the next governor race!

1. McKenna has always been a big time drug warrior--he was a backer of the sudafed idiocy.

I don't get it. Usually there is a 7-11 within a block of a state liquor store & Monster+vodka seems doesn't seem like a major hurdle.

There's a lot that I don't get though. I don't get a 'liberal' city like Seattle doing all those strip club raids and massage joint busts. For some reason we've got a very high prohibitionist-quotient in Washington state. If anyone knows why, please fill me in.

2. I think the ban is stupid. I also think the state selling booze is stupid.

As for McKenna, his support of this ban is small potatoes for me. It meant a whole lot more that he fought against the constitutionality of the Obamacare mandate. That matters. This doesn't. He's still light years better than another Gregoire term.

3. All of this cracks me up. Banning this stuff makes the do-gooders happy. It's all about the "do something" disease, whether it makes sense or not. I guess they suddenly forgot that they can go down to their local watering hole, suck down a few Irish coffees and get the same effect.
