A sports figure?
An Entertainer? Actor? Actress? Model? Singer? Race Car Driver? A Politician?
Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta. 22 years old.
Here is more....................
As a living CMOH holder, even if the President approaches him while he is wearing it, it is protocol for the President to salute him even though he is an NCO, a Staff Sergeant. This applies to even the highest CO. Even Petraeus or any other General.
"Everything slowed down and I did everything I thought I could do, nothing more and nothing less," Giunta told author Sebastian Junger, who gives a detailed account of the 2007 ambush in "War," his new book. "I did what I did because that's what I was trained to do."
Amazing
I once jumped into the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon to rescue a 10 year old whose foot was stuck between two logs underwater as he struggled in the rapids and who was about to be drowned. I kept his head above water as the "River Rats" came to then rescue the both of us.
I remember my first fight as a boxer, with fear overtaking me. I remember overcoming such and, in time, seeing a fight as "just going to work".
Courageous acts? Nope. Not even close. Actually, they are everyday events worthy of no praise. And that is just the simple truth.
But this? I cannot even wrap my head around it. I do not know how one does what he did or any other CMOH holder for that matter.
I just feel mighty proud that such folks exist.
They are giants.
