Press Release
The Citizens' Alliance for Property Rights sponsored an organizational meeting in Monroe Thursday on May 28th. Former King County Councilman and current CAPR President Steve Hammond and CAPR Director Dan Griner met with leading citizens to discuss the establishment of a Snohomish County Chapter of CAPR.
At the meeting local community leaders joined CAPR, formed a new chapter and elected local leaders for Snohomish County. Elected were Bob Clark Monroe President, Natalee Thurston Everett Vice President, Scott Fraser Monroe Treasurer and Kay Clark Monroe Secretary.
Citizens' Alliance for Property Rights was organized in 2003 as a non-partisan political action committee where individual citizens and existing organizations can work together to protect individual property rights of its members and the community at large.
It was CAPR that was responsible for litigation that led the Washington State Supreme Court to throw out King County critical area ordnances that in effect attempted to seize 65% of property owned by rural land owners.
Bob Clark, newly elected President said, "I think it's clear that the Snohomish County Council and several city councils are living under the illusion that property owners are just going to stand by and allow government to place useless and onerous regulations on land use and charge ridiculously high permit fees in the name of the Growth Management Act and get away with it. CAPR has been to court against extremist groups such as Futurewise and won three times in a row! Recent actions by Snohomish County to not aggressively oppose the 'Warm Beach substandard lot' court decision are not in the best interests of the county's tax payers or its economic future. We intend to send a message to local politicians of both parties that there is now an organized property owners' group that intends to have an impact on Election Day. "
Citizens Alliance for Property Rights now has chapters in 7 counties in Washington State and one in California. CAPR expects to expand another 5 chapters this year. For more information go to: http://www.proprights.org/
