Dam, Dam, Dam.
by 6p01053690976c970c, 07:37 PM, 2 Comments
I try to be upbeat, unlike the typical conservative always griping about things going to hell in a handbasket. But lately even I worry. Regardless of what else is going right or wrong, if we lose our ability to reason, our freedom and prosperity will surely follow. Recently I realized that I had run across three cases of bizarre news in connection with dams. A single instance could be written off to 'stuff happens.' Two could be a crazy fluke.... [read more]

SPD: serving and protecting you from you.
by 6p01053690976c970c, 02:34 AM, 0 Comments
Over the weekend, Seattle police took down a suspected brothel called the 'Sacred Temple' after a year-long investigation. Only last November, a spa on Aurora Ave. was busted on similar charges after a three year investigation. It appears that SPD is very thorough in these cases, with repeated stings, to make damn sure that illicit sex is taking place. Here is the account from KOMO news. The Stranger quotes a witness as saying, "we saw [police] swarming like ants." A... [read more]

Washington Newspapers: Domestic Partnerships Good, Ref 71 Bad
by 6p011570a068cf970b, 09:44 AM, 16 Comments
"Please say a prayer today for the courageous legislators who are standing tall in opposition to the agenda of the Seattle-based homosexual lobby and their left wing media allies & enablers." --Larry Sitckney in a Washington Values Alliance E-mail from April 15, 2009If you listen to Larry Stickney much, you hear this sort of refrain a lot. The assumption behind such statements is that once you leave the "Seattle red zone", as Larry calls it, you're in anti-domestic partnership country.... [read more]

The Race for King County Executive so it begins
by pspack, 11:14 AM, 7 Comments
The race for King County Executive has just gotten underway and the behavior of some of the sideline pundits is downright reprehensible. I have known Susan Hutchison for almost five years. The things that are being said do not depict the person I know. For years Susan has worked tirelessly to make King County a better place for all. She should be looked upon as a positive example of one who has inspired so many to believe in themselves and... [read more]

King County Community Forum
by mjc3389, 04:59 PM, 1 Comments
Here are King County's priorities for their next round of Community Forums. You know, those meetings with citizens where they pretend to care what county citizens support? * What are you opinions about a county income tax? * Do you have the right level of police service in your neighborhood? * How strongly should environmental concerns guide county policy making over the next five years? When I saw the idea of t county income tax I almost lost my cookies.... [read more]

The Republican Minimalist
by jabailo, 09:28 AM, 82 Comments
Republicans are under harsh daily criticism from the press and public. Being a Republican is hard! (Being right is hard, too...) Having been a Republican for only a very short amount of time, I yet see that there is great diversity in the party. Social conservatives, free enterprisers, those who want the personal freedoms in bearing arms and those who want maximal liberty in running a business and making money. At the same time we are under a popular President... [read more]

SPD vs. The Jerry Springer Show.
by 6p01053690976c970c, 02:09 PM, 0 Comments
With former SPD chief Gil Kerlikowske now running our nation's War on Drugs, let us glance back at the legacy he leaves at SPD. Only last year, there was the saga of an SPD officer who had bad blood with two fellow officers. He decided to get back by mailing an anonymous complaint about them. A highly trained cop should be able to manage an untraceable anonymous letter. I think Ollie North showed how it is done during Iran-Contra: You... [read more]

Updated: Most Ethical Congress Ever?
by JeffB., 11:09 AM, 1 Comments
As I recall, Speaker Pelosi assured us that hers would be the "most ethical congress evah!" Why then is she so unwilling to be associated with her past? Here the Washington Post provides more information that shows Speaker Pelosi knew full well the waterboarding program, which she recently denied. If this was such a terrible abuse of human rights that Bush era lawyers who advised the program should be disbarred, what then should be the fate of Madam Speaker who... [read more]

Help End Tax Funding of Abortion in WA
by michellemcntyr, 12:46 PM, 2 Comments
I want to call your attention to a brand new grassroots effort, here in the state of Washington, to end tax funding of abortion. There is a website now dedicated to this cause and educating the public about how our tax money is used towards abortion: http://prochoicewithmymoney.blogspot.com/ The website has a link to an online petition that will ultimately be presented to legislators to show how much support there would be for a bill to end tax funded abortion. The... [read more]

Spoon-control: if it saves one life it's worth it.
by 6p01053690976c970c, 03:10 AM, 11 Comments
I recall that in the early days of the gun-control debate, it was common for pro-gun-rights advocates to point out that murders were often done with impact 'weapons' such as hammers and shovels. "What's next: shovel-control?" they would often ask. Armstrong's law says that a libertarian's reductio ad absurdum is a bureaucrat's logical consequence, which sooner or later must be implemented. Britain already has enacted extensive 'knife control' laws. Cutlery companies make special Brit models of pocket knives, since the... [read more]
