Democrats in Oly pushing new law to use state facilities to campaign for massive tax increase on the ballot.

Right now, it's illegal to use any government asset or facility in favor of, or opposition to, any ballot measure, referendum or initiative.

If this ethical violation becomes law... expect massive amounts of YOUR tax dollars to be used to shove massive tax increases down your throat.

Thanks to Joe Turner at TNT for spilling the beans.

1. Of course this same provision allows a legislator (interesting that it doesn't include other folks such as the Governor) to voice their opposition.

It also is narrowly written to include only ballot proposition placed on the ballot by the legislature, not "any ballot measure".

My definition of "massive" might have a higher threshold than Hinton's - since this measure refers to newsletters, letters, press releases, and public meetings. Are though costing "massive" amounts now?

2. By the time it becomes 2ESHB 2322 they'll also be using staff assets, equipment, legislative media, and mailers. Mailers that cost a fortune, relatively speaking... a fortune to print, address, and mail... a taxpayer paid "yes" campaign without any equivlent taxpayer paid "no" campaign.

Yeah. I said "massive," and the cost could be in the hundreds of thousands for this unethical crap. If the Republicans controlled the leg and came out with, for example, a "no" campaign rule that would have allowed them, say, for example, to oppose 728 or 732... or the gas tax increase they ripped us off with, the leftists would have been bitching like cut cats.

Since you asked.
