Barack's Vap-O-President

There was a very telling SNL skit on Saturday featuring Barack and Joe Biden impersonations. The theme was remember when...the Convention, the Primary...it all seemed so clear.

But now the election is over, and people are sitting at their cubicles or desks in the White House and doing...what?

Yes. For me, the silence from Washington is deafening. I was expecting a torrent of legislation. I thought an Army of Liberal-Democrats would be storming the country by now, enacting programs, rallying Americans, putting kids into the Civil Conservation Core planting pine trees so they could send a few cents home to Mom and Dad.

But that stuff didn't happen. All that happened was a somewhat bland roads project with a lot of "favors" built in, is sitting in Congress. And somehow, with near absolute majorities in two branches of Government, the Republicans are at fault...still!

You know, Ronald Reagan was called the "Teflon" President by his detractors because criticism never stuck to him. Today, I name Barack Obama the Vapor President. He came to office on big promises of functionality that was ready to use -- but the release date came and went and he hasn't shipped anything yet!! In fact, instead of coming into office bringing source code, they still seem to be working up the timeline for an alpha release!

1. It seems like the Republicans have higher expectations of the Obama administration than everyone else. The guy's only been in for two weeks, loser.

And yes, Republicans are at fault. If they can't exactly propose some reasonable alternative aside from the obsessive, narrow-mined "cutting taxes" mantra, I don't think that they're contributing to the solution, are they?

2. I think most Obama voters have simply gone back to their blissful ignorance of what happens next, and are just assuming that the check paid for with other peoples' money will arrive any day.

As for alternatives, claiming that Republicans aren't offering alternatives is sort of like complaining that birds can't fly after cutting off their wings. If you want alternatives, perhaps you should write Nancy Pelosi and demand that she reverse her rule changes that took Republicans out of the equation in the House.
