Spokane County GOP Chair is organizing a bus to Olympia to fight eco-terrorist bill!

It appears that Matt Shea's alert regarding HB 1718 struck such a nerve with the party in Spokane, that Cindy Zapotocky, Spokane County Republican Party Chair is organizing either a bus or a carpool to bring local party members and other citizens to come down and speak against this thing.

Jim Robinson, Matt Shea's legislative assistant, purportedly stated that some left-wing environmentalist groups have been prepared for this and are organizing there members to go to the hearing tomorrow at 8 to pressure the legislators to ram this thing through.

Meanwhile, all you hear about the issue from the WSRP "Olympia Watch" is... crickets. An email from Luke Esser which hit inboxes today mentioned a pair of same-sex-marriage/domestic partnership bills, but was totally silent on this far more crucial matter.

While the state party sleeps on the issue, Shea, Zapotocky and the Spokane GOP deserve our kudos for taking the reins on this one and leading the fight against the radical environmentalists which somehow slipped into office. Do I see something that resembles "Republican leadership" coming out of the East? At least its coming from somewhere...

Zapotocky has posted Matt Shea's warning on the front page of the Spokane GOP website. I'll also link to their officer's page so you can email her some cheers for taking charge.

And any of us who can make it should be there tomorrow, as well.

1. Why is that funny number coming up instead of my name in byline?

2. I've been wondering for a while if our party did more to activate the grassroots, if we wouldn't be looking at near supermajorities of Democrats in both houses in Olympia, and if we'd be able to stop being on the defensive in this state and start repealing some bad, expensive, oppressive laws for a change.

With more local leaders like Zapotocky in the party, maybe we'll get there. Just imagine if this sort of leadership existed in King County... or at the state level!
