Change You Can Believe In

Remember all the liberals screaming about how your Constitutional rights were being trampled by Bush's warrantless wiretapping? Well, the Obama administration just sided with Bush on the program.

The Obama administration fell in line with the Bush administration Thursday when it urged a federal judge to set aside a ruling in a closely watched spy case weighing whether a U.S. president may bypass Congress and establish a program of eavesdropping on Americans without warrants.

The sound you hear? Liberal heads exploding.

1. It's okay that he's doing warrantless wire-tapping. He's a democrat.

(no double standards HERE; hey no, not us libs!)

2. Perhaps I am a news cycle or two behind, but I thought the warrantless wiretaps were always on communications that went outside the United States. I really don't have a problem with that, and thought it was more than a little disingenuous of the media to omit that.

It has always been my understanding that my rights as a US citizen ended at the border. That's why customs can seize and search luggage, laptops, even cellphones of US citizens entering the US. I think a phone call to Pakistan should be monitorable without a warrant.

And I am a fierce protector of privacy and opponent of big government. Don't get me started on the evils of DNA databases and the FedGov holding on to all of our medical records. National ID card? Puh Leeze. But that all ends at the border.

3. Don't forget his pledge to pay as you go! No more deficits...

Oops... Now it's trillion dollar deficits for years to come.

See, being a Slavery Party member means not having to be consistent or even honest!

4. And the party of tolerance and diversity, wherein no-change Clinton crony Robert Reich, says that stimulus money should not go to white males.

Racism is fine, as long as it is Democrat approved.

5. I expect that before too long it will be necessary to have some diversionary distractions so the Daily Kos folks will not notice how many of the Bush policies that Obama will keep.

Gun control is a time-honored diversionary issue for Dems, and still works for Greg Nickels but is a loser nationally. Maybe Obama could announce that he is quitting smoking and launch a massive anti-smoking effort. That would get a ton of press and thus be an effective distraction. Something along those lines is sure to pop up soon.

6. Regardless of whether libs get pissed or not, its not good for the American people. Principled conservatives who opposed such measures were always warning that if we give a Republican president these powers, then a Democrat president would end up using these powers against us.

The Dems are going after talk radio. They're the self-anointed PC police. They want to regulate the internet. They want to build a health records database.

Do you think it was a conservative government that 1984 depicted? If you do, then you need to check your understanding of conservative. And if you're one who claims libertarian sympathies (i.e. Reagan and all those active in Reagan-worship), then you're simply talking out both ends or just have no idea what these concepts mean.

Warrantless wire-tapping is bad. Read Andrew Napolitano on the subject.
