Port of Seattle is increasing taxes by 11% next year.
Creighton was the only one who indicated he wanted to reduce levy rates further.
"A lot of these projects seem to fall down the list in terms of priority. ... If we're not going to be as aggressive as we can in reducing the tax levy this year, what year can we be?"
As opposed to Pat Davis, who thinks that because every other tax measure passed that the time to raise taxes without a vote was now:
Commissioner Pat Davis said voters' passage of parks levies showed their support for investment now.
The Commission is supposedly "non-partisan" but Tarleton is a Democrat, and was a Democrat contributor last election. Hara was too. Davis most definitely favors Democrats.
Creighton contributes to Republicans, and indicated he wanted to reduce the levy rate further, but voted for it anyway.
The Port CEO is a heavy Gregoire/Democrat contributor, as are most of the senior administrators, directors and managers of the Port. They contributed to Democrats by more than 2 to 1 last election.
The legislature surely will not do anything about port levies. Might be time for another initiative.
