John McCain Gives Stage-Setting Speech in Virginia Leading Up to Debate

I don't know how many times Senator McCain can come out of the political coma his campaign keeps lapsing into, but his speech this morning in Virginia Beach, VA, is certainly an indication that John S. Lazarus McCain III is rising once again.

The only place I found the entire speech was on McCain's own website. Follow this direct link to take you to a page that has a full video and the text of his speech. The speech begins almost immediately.

(Make sure to watch Governor Palin's expressions of genuine admiration as she listens to the speech from behind him on the stage.)

Intuition guides me to think that if the McCain campaign can wrangle the right kind of media coverage, this speech will be the stage-setter and McCain will carry the momentum into the last debate. His strategy appears to be to use this last verbal clash to put everything out there, and Obama will not have the "next time" to improve. Ordinarily, saying that McCain's entire campaign rides on this debate would be considered hyperbole and cliche. In this case, it is not an exaggeration.

It's no wonder that I couldn't find the speech in its entirety on CNN.com. Why it wasn't available on FoxNews.com, I can't explain.

1. I did not listen to the speech (at this point McCain has to earn my time) but unless he talks about how he has been held at gun point his entire senate career and made to do things like support the bailout, create McCain Feingold, oppose the Bush Tax Cuts, never propose to cut government agencies, etc... It will not change anything.

For real change vote for a third party to send a message to the two major parties that their choices (Both of them) are unacceptable.

2. Although I understand the impulse to advocate for third parties, more often than not it has the same effect as placing a penny in the path of a locomotive. The locomotive charges forward, the penny is flattened and all you have is a shiny memento of the day you did something pointless and stupid.

The real way to affect change is to become involved. Third parties have only ever had any power because of the level of involvement. The average Republican voter has never attended a caucus or party function, never written to an elected official. Do you think the same is true of Green Party voters?

If GOP voters were as passionate about involving themselves in the process as the typical fringe party voter, I am sure you would see the parties respond to the will of their members.
