How to know if King County counted your ballot (and your vote for Rossi)

Now that we have a mostly vote-by-mail system that can easily be gamed, here is a possible strategy for knowing if your vote was counted. This year there are many judicial positions that have unnapposed candidates running for them. To know if your ballot was counted, randomly pick one of those races and write in a name that you can remember. Write yourself in. Write in your Mom. If King County publishes the entire results with everybody who received 1 or more votes (which I'm not certain they do) then if your vote was counted, you should see one vote for the person you wrote in.

I do not recommend you do this, it is just an idea that occurred to me one day.

1. Unfortunately they do not. Write-in candidates are not displayed in results until they have a certain number of votes (I can't remember the number though).

3. There has got to be a better way. Voters have a right to know that their vote counted. Simms will play the same game he played last time. The only way he can get the county out of the fiscal mess he created is for Gregoire to give him state money. There is your motive. Just wait for the crime.

4. However, your idea does have merit!

If we were to establish a "key" name, like "Joe the Barista", say on Sound Politics and then each of us would send in an email saying "I voted for Joe the Barista" then Sound Politics could keep the tally and see if it matches up with the count.

Alternatively, we don't have to use a key.

We could simply all make our votes public. For example, we could set up a database on Sound Politics and enter our name, address, phone and put down who we voted for. Then would know the minimum number of votes for our candidate.
