Everett, WA--In a state which the entire political and media establishment insist is decidedly and immovably "pro-choice" on abortion, 7 cities have generated enormous support, enough to commit to the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history, joining up with cities nationally and internationally, 170 cities in all. The 40 Days for Life campaign features prayer, fasting, round-the-clock peaceful vigil outside an abortion facility and grassroots educational outreach. The campaign will run from September 24--November 2.
Everett is one of the 7 Washington cities participating and will hold its prayer vigil outside of the Everett Planned Parenthood at 1509 32nd St., the corner of 32nd and Hoyt, across from the U.S. Post Office. "We are there to pray for God's love and mercy, pray for those women and men considering abortion, pray for the workers in abortion centers like Planned Parenthood and pray for the doctors who perform this ugly procedure and get paid to do it," said Ed Mohs, coordinator of the Everett 40 Days for Life campaign.
This fall's campaign marks the third of the nationally coordinated campaigns, beginning with the first in the fall of 2007--in which Everett participated--and the second in the spring of 2008. The number of participating cities has increased almost twofold and the Everett organizers report that the number of local volunteers have grown at least twofold. "We've seen the positive impact that 40 Days for Life has on the community, and it has inspired more to join our efforts," said Michelle McIntyre, who coordinated last fall's campaign. "We've seen hearts and minds change. We've seen women turn away from abortion. We've redirected women in need to resources that will provide love and support to them and their babies. Would-be clients of Planned Parenthood have thanked us for our prayers and for our help. This is all a result of the power of prayer, fasting and God's faithfulness to his promises."
In some cities where 40 Days for Life campaigns have been, abortion clinics have dramatically reduced their hours, and in Rockland County, New York, the clinic closed. The 40 Days for Life campaign is determined to press on until the tragedy of legalized abortion is ended in America. "We may be on the verge of a turning point in the battle against abortion," said David Bereit, national campaign director of 40 Days for Life.

Posted by michellemcntyr at September 05, 2008 10:09 AM | Email ThisWASHINGTON, September 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The International Catholic Week of Prayer and Fasting is now in its 16th year and is gaining momentum like never before. With the fast approaching presidential elections, the expansion of the group's mission has become even more vital to building a culture of life say organizers of the effort.
Coalition Chairperson Maureen Flynn says she believes the mission of organizing prayers for world peace, life issues, and the upcoming presidential election has never been needed more. Flynn states: "Our country is at a crossroads and many Americans sense the critical importance of this election and the need for prayer."
She added: "In the past 35 years, we have allowed another form of terrorism, the killing of the innocent unborn child. There are 1.3 million abortions a year in the United States. Globally, we have allowed child sacrifice and are now in danger of having a president who supports infanticide. In the Old Testament, the ultimate sin that brought about judgment on nations was the sin of child sacrifice. As Blessed Teresa of Calcutta said, 'the poorest of the poor is the unborn child.'"
There will be three national events held in Washington D.C. The goals of the week are: the conversion of nations, world peace and the building of a culture of life. The theme this year is mercy, hope, and healing. The Coalition is asking for people to participate as individuals, families, and parishes by organizing and participating in the following: fasting, daily Mass, and prayers, including but not limited to Holy Hours, Rosaries, Divine Mercy Chaplets and Confession.

Ottawa Gears Up for 40 Days for Life Rally
OTTAWA, September 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On September 23, Ottawa will join more than 170 cities hosting 40 Days for Life, a powerful movement that has already helped save countless unborn lives.
The kick-off rally on Parliament Hill, scheduled for 7-9 pm, will officially begin the period of prayer and community outreach lasting from September 24 to November 2. The rally will include Angelina Steenstra from Silent No More Awareness and a silent, prayerful candlelight procession to the Morgentaler abortion clinic. As a visible sign of the widespread prayer and sacrifice to end abortion, participants will keep vigil outside the clinic throughout the forty days.
The rally advertisement describes its trifold initiative:
- Prayer and Fasting: inviting people of faith throughout the city to join together for 40 days of fervent prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. "This is a spiritual battle," explains the advertisement, "and some demons can only be driven out by prayer & fasting."
- Peaceful Vigil: standing for life through a 40-day peaceful public witness outside the local Morgentaler abortion mill.
- Community Outreach: taking a positive, upbeat pro-life message to every corner of the city through media efforts, church presentations, petition drives, and public visibility.
40 Days for Life already produced groundbreaking results in America last year, with several abortion clinics closing or being scaled back during the campaign. (See http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2007/oct/07101607.html)
"As people here in Ottawa join with others from across the country to pray and fast and take courageous action for 40 days to end the tragic violence of abortion, we look forward to seeing what kind of transformation God will bring about in our city and throughout Canada," said local 40 Days for Life spokesman Nicole Campbell.
