Times and PI to increase newstand price 50%...

As if.

So, jacking up the price at the newstand to 75 cents for a couple of out-of-touch fishwrappers REALLY ought to skyrocket circulation, eh? And, of course, soon subscription prices will take off as well, REALLY putting it into the stratosphere.

Down here in Clark County, our local Pravda (The Columbian) has decided that the way to increase circulation is to reduce size and reduce features... giving people less for more.

Both of these positively brilliant strategies sound like a recipe for something... but I don't believe "disaster" was what they were looking for.

1. Good! Let them double that cost again! The faster they sink the better off we'll all be. I loved the fact that New York Times Circulation Plummets and that it has since plunged further!

2. They had to lower the price a few years ago to increase publication, and I refused to pay even that lowered rate for my kitty litter liner.

Maybe we can watch their publication and sales dwindle even further, it will be a fun wake.

I hope the Seattle PI triples their prices, but unfortunately the people who read that rag would still buy it.
