While standing in line at the local Safeway today, I stared at a newspaper photo of Barack Obama's big white stage on which he gave his acceptance speech at Invesco Field in Denver. And all of a sudden, I remembered a college instructor's words to me, and they describe the Obama campaign perfectly.
It was in a photojournalism class at UW, and one day the instructor only half-jokingly advised: "Remember the rule we have in this business, whatever photo you've chosen for your story---if you can't make it good, MAKE IT BIG."
We laughed, but kept his advice in mind. And today I realized that Obama is following my instructor's advice. The Saddleback forum revealed a shockingly ill-prepared democrat candidate, compared with the more depth-exhibiting McCain. And it becomes ever more clear that Obama has always known he didn't have much to run on, so he would have to just GO BIG. Big stages, big dictator-looking photos of himself, big venues.
Unfortunately for Obama, what he mostly has to offer is the marxist dogma he's chosen to surround himself with much of his life. So it's no wonder he's going for "the big photo."
I See right through the trick, Barack. I'm not buyin'. And neither are a whole lot of others. We'll see how many people figure it out by November.
