Memo to Dino about Veterans

Dino: I hope you'll copy Ohio's plan for veterans.

"Any and all military personnel who served in the Iraq or Afghanistan theaters shall be considered an "honorary" citizen of Washington State for the purpose of College or University tuition."

If Gregoire and her pals can give in-state tuition rate breaks to illegal aliens, Dino Rossi should stand and offer the same breaks to our military heroes.

And...we'd be getting a much better citizen in the deal.

1. Is the GI Bill not still around, I have a friend who got out of the Military a few years ago and the Military is still paying for his college?

2. Gregoire talks about how good she is for veterans. What she's done is a pittance compared to other states. The big push now is to give free tuition to combat veterans -- I know Massachusetts has done this and other states have or are implementing it.

Our state just isn't in a position to consider something like that because we have a looming deficit of $2.7 BILLION and growing. Well, at least Gregoire got to reward her personal allies with her 31% spending increase. Veterans? Pretty much nothing. :(

3. GS, yes, the GI bill is still around through the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
