Had It with Seattle - Move East

I attended my high school reunion in Warren, Ohio last weekend. Once a vibrant steel town, home of a GM assembly plant and several other long gone manufacturing companies and a frequently nationally ranked high school football team, it now suffers from the rust belt economy. But if you don't have to live in Seattle, consider this. A three bedroom, two bath colonial near the Trumbull County Golf and County Club, probably $800,000 in Seattle, can be yours for $159,000 in Warren. Low cost housing, how about under $100,000 for a nice cape cod? Sure, Ohio is run by Democrats, has an income tax but sales tax is only six percent and low home prices yield low taxes. Pro sports and culture is less than an hour and a half away in Cleveland (world famous art museum and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame) or Pittsburgh. But the topper has to be the letter to the editor of the Warren Tribune Chronicle from a senior citizen complaining about the exorbitant cost of a parking ticket in downtown Warren - $7.00. Mayor Nickels, please read.

2. I was born and raised in Cleveland and have loads of family there. Also, we left Seattle for Pittsburgh for a few (best) years. They are wonderful places to live with the friendliest people around... far friendlier than Seattle snobs.

You will find THE best breads there (none of this mushy 'french' bread we get here: great crusty Italian bread, mouth watering Jewish Rye bread), terrific deli's and the single most wonderful ethnic bakeries anywhere.

That being said, they have FAILED economies... not failing, FAILED. My crazy uncle wants to sue the city of Shaker Heights because his home value dropped like a rock in a river.

Also, hello!, they have WINTER, mean, cold, bitter, LONG, nasty winter.

We're seriously considering North Carolina, although I won't mention what wonderful little town... I don't want it Californicated by snobby Seattleites, wimpy Washingtonians or loser liberals.

3. I must admit, I'm FROM Seattle (Swedish Hospital and Ballard, yah, sure...

But unfortunately, Seattle has become a great place to be FROM.

4.
Quite frankly, after trying to ride my bike during this weekend's Smogfest, I imagine the air is more breathable in Cleveland and Cincinnati...
