Time for the Spartans?

This 60 Minutes piece about homosexuals in the military raises an interesting question ...

Since commanders are more reluctant to boot out the queers, because of operational need, might the cultural dilemma be resolved by creating "Spartan Brigades" of wholly gay enlistees?

Which is more absurd: the command structure who find no evidence of homosexuality with visual evidence and self-admission, or recognizing the reality of the world and develop openly segregated service, to take advantage of all the talents everyone may offer?

The Spartans were among the most feared and fierce warriors of their day, and openly promoted homosexuality among their ranks.

America has a proud tradition of segregated military service to accommodate cultural prejudices.

America needs take advantage of all the talents in its military recruits.

"Spartan Brigades" would openly admit the cultural difficulties which the military cannot and should not solve - so segregate the culturally unacceptable, allowing them to proudly prove themselves in service to their Nation.

Bring on the Spartans !!!!

1. I heard this military report was put together by the gay coalition and was biased to begin with.

I doubt the Spartans of yesteryear were anything like the homosexuals of today.

2. Actually, I heard an English general talking about the "500" "gay" Spartans of Thermopolaye on 60 Minutes the other night. Not much is said of the Spartan's sex lives. I think people mean the Sacred Band of Thebes, which WAS based on two-man "teams" who were in a May-September romance situation. They came on the scene after Sparta's decline.

3. "A proud tradition of segregated military service to accommodate cultural prejudices"? You've got to be kidding me. As a proud member of the culturally-elite homosexual community, I do hereby declare anyone with the gall to commit such horrible language to virtual paper "culturally unacceptable".
