D Congress Gas Price: 7/4/07 $3.00 7/4/2008 $4.50

Here's what we get from "The Most Ethical Congress in History" under Nancy Pelosi. $4.50 a gallon. Is it ethical to let the US Economy slide under increasing energy costs without any plan for the future?

Watch this video of what Pelosi said on July 4, 2007.

Then compare that with today's gas prices. And Harry Reid just said that energy makes us sick. An unfortunate and very Democrat Freudian slip.

Yeah, Democrats are sick at the prospect of the US engaging in an ethical and moral right, which is proud usage of resources to fuel our economy and better our lives. The US was built on energy, but Democrats want to kill that progress, because they hate themselves and what our country has achieved.

Sign the Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less Petition. Call your Senators and Congressmen and demand action on energy policy now. We must use all technology at our disposal to move forward before our economy stagnates further. Drill, Build, Research, Invent, Invest, Create, Achieve, Fission, React, Burn, Generate, Explore. These are the verbs of real Americans.

Lastly, vote the Democrat Bums out of office locally and nationally. Especially Christine Gregoire who is unwilling to allow Washington's Historical Nuclear Expertise to be put to good use in the Tri-Cities.

1. "Green Collar Job" must not have been on the Democrat Talking Point Buzzword List yet for that Pelosi speech, but she did a good job of including most of the others.

Ironic too how she blames Bush for not getting an energy policy through, when it was her party that has blocked every part of his energy policy that would have eased prices (ANWR, nuclear, refineries).

2. I wish they'd enable us to drill... but even more pressing, I wish that people wouldn't mistake correlation for causation either.

In July 2001, it looks like the average was $1.38 or so. Oh how I miss that. Unfortunately, prices will go up, that's the natural way of things when our dollar declines in value and demand goes up for a commodity.

So yeah, let's drill. I'm with you there. But let's not lie to ourselves about who's at fault.

3. Andrew. It is true that there is not one single factor responsible for high gas prices. There is new demand from India and China. A cartel in the Middle East. The Iraq war fuel demand. Demand here in the US and elsewhere. Refineries that have not been built. High electricity demands that spill over in to fuel costs indirectly. Market speculation which has driven up the price. Ethanol formulations each summer which decrease supply and drive up the cost. Increased summer driving, and a huge chunk of the prices goes to increased gas taxes, such at the WA 9.5 cent tax, federal taxes, weaker dollar, etc., etc.

But, the blame is squarely on politicians, mostly Democrat, for blocking market efforts to respond to increased demand. If the market were unfettered by government regulation, corporations would have responded long ago with more drilling, and more refining capacity. Instead, there has been a whole lot of environmental lobbying to block drilling, and thwart refineries that has created the import culture which allowed us to get chummy with the Saudi. Plus a whole bunch of environmentalism that opposes other forms of energy production that then spills over in to increased fuel costs.

If we simply made every effort to go get as much oil as we can find domestically, coupled with producing as much domestic nuclear as possible, while working towards new technologies, the problems would all largely go away.

It's not a technology or a resource problem but a philosophical problem. We've been told that oil is sinful, that we are addicted that we should be ashamed and guilty for energy usage, etc. This is religion, no different than Catholic guilt.

The truth is that energy usage is man's greatest virtue. Our ability to better our lives through ingenuity is why we have vastly more free time today than in the past where we were subject to the drudgery of daily agrarian or hunter gatherer life for survival. Every effort of new ingenuity, new discovery, life saving technology, medicine, recreation, etc. requires vast amounts of energy to build the incredible hierarchy of production on top of which everything else can be built.

New polls show that Americans favor dumping environmental guilt to produce the energy we need. And as prices go higher, there is less incentive to take marginal income and place it towards worthwhile conservation. Environmental groups sew their own demise by forcing their agenda on us all. Because most Americans see productivity as a virtue, and they connect the dots that energy is required to make that possible.

Government could form a useful guidance by incentivizing and favoring new fuel technologies. Instead, government force is simply use to block usage of existing technology and fuel sources which are what we must use to create a new paradigm.

It's a chicken and egg problem, and it is largely caused by Democrats who legislate on everything from thermostat settings, the bags we can use for groceries, where and when oil companies can drill, what puddle constitutes a wetland, etc.

Anyone who voted for these Democrats that come up with all of these regressive policies should feel culpable.

4. Some more info on why we need to reverse all anti-energy policies and legislation immediately.

The Democrat talking points are that we can't drill our way to more oil? Hmmm, how do we get oil? By drilling. The Conservative talking point should be "We can't "Still" or "Shrill" our way to more oil either." Yet that's all we hear from Nancy Pelosi and team.

Vote Democrats Out, Lower Gas Prices. It's that simple.

5. Agree with all of that, for what it's worth. I just wish I could read a post on this site that didn't say or imply "but it's the democrats fault"... It just seems like a huge cop-out for republicans who are also at fault. We can blame other people or go fix the problem. I prefer to be a doer myself, rather than finger pointing guy.

6. I agree that Republicans are at fault too. See my post on BioFuel.

But by far and away Democrats are more at fault. And they are by far and away the majority party in this state. Who do we have to blame for losing a good forward thinking nuclear fuel processing option in Richland at the Areva plant? Democrat Christine Gregoire.

Who were the bureaucrats in King County that signed off on Bio-Fuel for the Metro Bus Fleet? Democrats Ron Sims and Greg Nickels.

Who is saying nationally that we can't drill out way out of the problem? Democrats Reid, Pelosi, Obama, and locally Gregoire, etc.

To be sure you will find corruption and idiots in the Republican politician ranks. They are making some of the same bad shady deals and same bad legislation. McCain comes to mind too.

But if you look at the 30 year legacy of stagnation, obstruction,
kow-towing to environmentalist lobbies, anti-drilling policy on the CA Coast, etc. it almost always goes back to Democrats.

As usual, the main reason to vote Republican is not that it is good with ridiculous faith based pronouncements, etc. but that it is simply better and more effective that the socialist, anti-man policies of the Democrats.

7. Yeah, I can definitely understand your point of view there, and good post on the Republican thing as well, I just saw that.
