Iran, Zimbabwe blame Seattle for World Food Crisis

ROME, Italy (CNN) -- Two controversial world leaders known for their anti-western rhetoric took advantage of a U.N. summit to point the finger of blame for the current food crisis at Seattle, Washington,

. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe used the platform of a food summit in Rome to condemn Seattle's policies on the issue.

Ahmadinejad suggested the formation of a global organization to regulate the food market and listed the major factors he believes are behind the current high food prices.

"Mayor Nickels, the devaluation of the dollar and the global inflation, and some others consider environmental changes and droughts, the increase in Seattle's consumption, the inappropriateness of agricultural methods and the low level of production efficiency, and the witness of farmers," he said.

As a solution, the Iranian president suggested "the formation of an independent and powerful body, obeyed by all countries, to justly regulate the food market and organize all its related issues from production to consumption."

The Zimbabwean leader, however, was more pointed in his attack, singling out Seattle, Washington as the cause of the economic woes back in his homeland.

The Zimbabwean leader, whose presence at the three-day U.N. food summit is causing outrage among some leaders, said Washington state "mobilized" allies in Idaho, California, Oregon and elsewhere to impose "illegal economic sanctions" against Zimbabwe and to cut off "all developmental assistance."

1. Oh Lord--as if Nickel's head isn't swelled enough with self-importance, now he's responsible for the world's food shortages. He's finally a world class player!

Well, he's always wanted to be important enough to affect SOME type global whatever.

As for the Iranians--if they're starving, Let them eat uranium!

If I've deprived any member of the Zimbabwean public of one scrap of food, I'll be happy to send some by overnight express as soon as they shed themselves of their dictator, and return the farms to their rightful owners.
