Politicians, especially presidential candidates, make promises they never intend to keep, or which they are unable to keep. Not pleasant, but a historically understood problem.
What galls me though, is when sitting legislators run on a platform of change or improvement but their history in their legislative branch shows no action on these issues while they were in the perfect place to do something about those issues. The solutions the politicians promise must wait until they are elected - in this case, with the campaigning starting so much sooner, we will have to wait for the solutions for two or more years. For politicians not currently in power, I am limited to comparing their actions while in power to what they are promising to do once elected - did they practice what they preach?
If these candidates currently hold legislative power, why aren't they offering up the bills to solve these issues today? If the people are suffering so much and require the government to solve their problems, why must they wait?
Why are we given stories about looks, haircuts, clothing, cleavage, tears, etc.? Why are the questions based around what the politician says they are going to do, instead of asking them about what they are doing?
For existing legislators, here are a few questions I would like to hear asked of them:
Senator, you have claimed that millions are without healthcare. You have been a Senator for a while, what bills have you sponsored or pushed that would, in your opinion, alleviate this problem? If you have not proposed a bill yet, why do the millions without healthcare have to wait another year before you would do something about it?
Senator, when the Great Society was launched in 1964, one of the goals was to get people out of poverty. At that time, the highest tax rate was 77%. If having tax rates over 70% wasn't enough to solve poverty then, what are you proposing today that would work better than all of the plans of the last 40+ years? How much of the poverty numbers you espouse are attributable to illegal aliens - workers that come here illegally to work in poverty (by our standards) so that they are able to improve their condition in their home country?
Senator, the City of Berkley, California has passed a resolution that would force the Marine Corps recruiting station to leave Berkley. They even granted an anti-war protesting group a permanent parking spot in front of the recruiting center. What is your opinion of these actions? Would you be willing to support legislation to withhold federal funding for Berkley until they rescind this resolution? Do you condemn their action?
I'll probably only hear about their new hairstyles.
Google him and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Even if you disagree with some positions, you can be assured what he says is what you get.
