Residential Burn Ban Nixed

The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has nixed plans to permanently ban residential outdoor burning in rural areas in King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties. Good. They did continue with their recommendation to ban land clearing burning, which I found more reasonable.

Quote from today's email:

based on the comments received and issues raised about the availability and costs of alternatives to residential burning,
particularly for large parcels of property located in rural areas,
staff believes it is not clear that the regulatory criteria are met.
Therefore, staff recommends the Board withdraw the proposal regarding
residential burning.

I was one of these commenters who opposed this ban, as were others here I am sure. Kudos to you for making your voice heard on this issue.

2. I think they got it exactly backwards. The rural burning is an ongoing thing. Land clearing burning for building is a one-time thing for that lot. They are going to incur huge expenses for people who've cleared for building.

3. The cost to chip has gotten a lot less expensive, but you are right, it is another example to increase costs.
