**UPDATED! **Chris Matthews: TAKE ACTION

I heartily agree with the following editorial and strongly urge you to express your sentiments to MSNBC (viewerservices@msnbc.com) and to ask your friends and family to do the same. It's time we stood up against blatantly biased media. Matthews reputation is not one of open-mindedness or even fairness. With his penchant for leading and misleading loaded questions, with his well known and well documented hatred of conservatives and Republicans and his blatant, brazenly obvious fawning over liberals, this debate will be a witch hunt and a vile game of "gotcha" to embarrass the candidates and become fodder for his talk show. We will learn nothing Tuesday from the candidates that we probably don't already know or can learn from an unbiased source. Again, I urge you to contact the campaigns if you are able, turn off Chris Matthews, turn off MSNBC (as most of America has already done as evidenced by their dismal ratings), and let MSNBC (viewerservices@msnbc.com) know we will not be party to this travesty.

AN IMMODERATE MODERATOR

October 6, 2007 -- So, should viewers of Tuesday's Republican presidential debate expect an exchange of views between the candidates - or between the candidates and one of the event's moderators?

It's a fair question, given the jaw-dropping comments Thursday evening from MSNBC blowhard - and scheduled debate moderator - Chris Matthews.

Matthews was celebrating the 10th anniversary of his "Hardball" program at a Washington event, when he let loose a broadside at the White House.

Bush & Co., he declared, had "finally been caught in their criminality."

He compared this White House's behavior with another one, saying, "Spiro Agnew was not an American hero."

Of the vice president, Matthews said, "God help us if we had Cheney during the Cuban missile crisis. We'd all be under a parking lot."

Now, "Hardball" is an opinion show, and Matthews is certainly entitled to his opinions - however offensively he chooses to express them.

But why should any Republican candidate expect fairness from Matthews now?

More to the point, why should potential voters expect Matthews to treat the candidates' views fairly?

By engaging in this sort of intemperate rhetoric, Matthews has effectively disqualified himself as an "honest broker" for this coming debate.

NBC needs to replace him as a debate moderator immediately. The job - by definition - requires an attempt to display objectivity going into an event.

Yes, the distinction between "objective journalist" and "opinion-maker" in recent years has been blurred to the point where they're nearly indistinguishable. But Matthews' comments obliterated any possible distinction.

Earlier this year, the Democratic presidential candidates refused to participate in a debate on Fox News on the grounds that the channel was "biased." That's baloney, of course - certainly the debate wasn't going to be moderated by Fox's prime-time opinion hosts.

That is, the Fox network's Chris Matthews analogues.

Given Matthews' outrageous rhetoric - and if MSNBC doesn't haul him off the debate forthwith - the GOP candidates would be well within their rights to stay home, too.

Otherwise, viewers should just change the channel

UPDATE!

This guy lies with such veracity that one would expect worms to be flowing from him mouth!

Matthews on Matthews

On today's "Morning Joe," Joe Scarborough asked Chris Matthews if Republican candidates would try to get a "cheap applause line" tonight by pointing to his recent controversial comments.

Said Matthews:

I've been thinking about that....It's not my stage tonight. I don't have much standing to retort in real time.

However, I do have one sensitive point and that is, I don't mind being wrong -- I try to be right. I don't mind somebody saying I'm not fair -- I try to be fair. ... If someone says I'm not independent, it's going to be very hard for me to bite my tongue. ...

For twenty years I've paid the price of indepdendence. I've taken it from everybody ... every night of my life for the past twenty years. ...

If they accuse of me of being partisan, I'll go rip! ...

It's not about me, it's about them and who's going to be president during these difficult times.

Scarborough predicted that three Republican candidates would poke fun of Chris. Said Matthews: "Let's hope it doesn't happen."

Breitbart has the video.

1. He already has done his 'stupid' moderator stint. Why does he get another?

3. OK. Let me start off by saying I do not like Chris Matthews. In fact, yesterday I told a friend of mine we should start a Chris Matthews Haters Fan Club, because we both hate him so much for his stupidity and lack of professionalism.

But here's the thing: that friend of mine is a diehard, far left, liberal Democrat.

Yes, I am well aware that Matthews is a liberal. And a Democrat. But I also know he is an independent thinker. He is. He always has been, since I've been seeing him since the 90s. He will often say nice things about Bush: and that just makes the rest of the Dems go crazy. Media Matters, for example, HATES Matthews.

So I frankly have to agree with Matthews here. Yes, he is a liberal. Yes, he is a Democrat. But he is also an independent thinker, and he does take attacks from all sides.
