Over on Slashdot, I ran into a fellow who was saying that a story about cops supposedly doing racial profiling was evidence that America is taking one step forward, three steps back. As I often do, I tried to add some perspective, noting that despite any problems we have, we've still come very far, and are improved in just about every way.

I added that we could be further along if we didn't so easily tolerate racism from non-whites, such as Venus Velazquez.

He said I was wrong, that we are not as advanced as I think we are, that he knows this because he goes to other countries ... and that he has endorsed Venus.

You can't make this sort of stuff up.
