Toby Nixon Endorses Mitt Romney for President

For those of you who don't already know, I'm supporting Mitt Romney for President. I was on the host committee for his June 20 fundraiser in Bellevue, and am stepping up my involvement to include helping Jennifer Dunn and others on Mitt's campaign team in Washington to organize grassroots efforts statewide to get Mitt's supporters to the caucuses on February 9 and to vote in the primary on February 19.

Why do I support Mitt? Without question, among all of the candidates (and presumed soon-to-be candidates) for president, he is the most capable of leading the largest government in the world and tackling the complex problems that face us. He's a successful businessman who has turned around many faltering enterprises. He understands the principles of the free market and why it has made this nation the greatest in history. He has the analytical skills to identify solutions and the vision, courage, leadership and political skills to implement them. As governor of Massachusetts, he turned a multi-billion-dollar deficit into a balanced budget without raising taxes or increasing debt, proving that he can guide a divided government and population. He is smart, articulate, and a man of strong character and principles. He shares my values, including commitment to individual liberty, personal responsibility and limited government. He has the right positions on the right issues.

I invite you to join me in supporting Mitt Romney for President. If you would like to become involved in the grassroots organizing efforts in Washington at any level -- precinct, legislative district, county, congressional district, or statewide -- please send email to WashingtonForRomney@hotmail.com or to me at toby@tobynixon.com. And, of course, I encourage you to contribute to Mitt's campaign online.

1. Tobey .. we met a few weeks ago and I was impressed. That said, I have a lot of reservations about Mr. Romney.

A President #1 job is NOT administration those folks can be hired, it is leadership. Romney, I suspect, is pro choice, however by taking his political stand in the primary, Romney has created a huge problem should he become President. This is atg best poor judgment. That sort of polarizing politics is, to use word introduced in the early years of this century, Rovian.

I would make similar comments about Romnney's lack of leadership in re Iraq. I have no idea where he really stands but he certainly has failed to offer plan. Personally I believe we need to stay on, but of MR believes this he needs to say so.

The same political cowardice affects much of the rest of his campaign.

Finally,he would do well to defuse his Mormonism in a positive way. If he does become President and has not dealt withthie issue before then, very dangerous decision could be limited by his pre-election activities.

This does not say that MR is not the best of the current Elephant pack,

2. Stephen, you should probably read the book by Hugh Hewitt- "A Mormon in the White House". I can't remember the exact name, but it should provide you with enlightenment.

I became impressed with Romney when I found out that he created his wealth as compared to leeching off his parents. That they gave him a start shouldn't detract from his successes.

Second, remember the Olympics in Salt Lake City. It was a financial disaster till Romney took over and saved it.

That is not to say I don't think the other Rs are good, also. And please don't believe the MSM claim that he is a flip-flopper. He isn't. Kerry is.

3. The flip-flopper label is not a "claim" constructed by the "MSM." It's simply his record. Reasonable people can change their minds on issues, but when they do it just for the sake of winning an election, it smells bad.

Romney's not a bad guy. But he is a typical politician and a poor leader. Leaders have principles, Romney has pollsters. If he gets in, don't doubt that he'll switch everything back to the left, if the situation requires.

People have so much respect for politicians like Jennifer Dunn and Toby Nixon. That's why it's a shame to see them make such a political move and support such a run of the mill, transparent politician.

4. You should not be so quick to judge a person's motive for changing his mind about the right to life. Ronald Reagan signed the most liberal abortion law in the nation when he was governor of California, and only later changed his mind to become a champion for the right to life as President. If we cannot rally and welcome new converts to the cause, we will never have the political strength we need to change the law.
