Medved weighs in on the Senate Bill

Well, I guess, any sentient being could have predicted it. While Americans across the nation boiled up in rage over the most recent permutation of the Kennedy/McCain/Bush Amnesty movement, while the legislative virus served, once again, to unite the conservative movement, and the whole blogosphere erupted in indignation at McCain, Bush and the RNC and the Senate phone lines were literally blown up by outraged callers, and it was discovered that the little "summit" meeting of far-left leaders from both Parties did not actually agree on legislation because the bill was not even written and might not be completed until after it was passed (!!!!), Michael Medved stepped forward and devoted his precious "kinder, gentler and compassionate" radio time to telling us that, in fact, we are the victims of some unprecedented mass hypnosis; that our eyes are deceiving us.

Rush Limbaugh: "Liberals are trying to tear this country down institution by institution and rebuild it in their own image, and this is one of the steps that they are trying to make it happen."
Tom Tancredo: ""Instant Amnesty."
Fred Thompson: "Amnesty."
Duncan Hunter: "Amnesty is not the answer."
Michael Savage: vowed to "derail this train of treason."
Eagle Forum: "The Senators pushing the amnesty will try to ram this mammoth bill through before the Memorial Day recess so they can vote and not worry about the response of their constituents".
Mitt Romney: ""Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new 'Z-Visa' does, is a form of amnesty,"
Minutemen Civil Defense: "Stop Kennedy-McCain Amnesty!"
Grassfire.org: "The Bush-Senate Z-Amnesty plan is 100 percent amnesty."
Sen. Jim DeMint: "I don't care how you try to spin it, this is amnesty,"
Columbia Christians for Life: "Amnesty Plan for Millions of Illegal Immigrants"
Sen. John Cornyn: "I simply cannot, and will not, support any legislation that repeats the mistakes of the 1986 amnesty."
Christian Response: "Vote "NO" Now to Stop Kennedy-McCain Amnesty!"
Michelle Malkin: "Bush-Kennedy amnesty"
Colin Hanna, President, Let Freedom Ring: "It's amnesty, and it's bad for America,"

Michael Medved: "It's not amnesty."

I guess that clears it up, Michael.

Meanwhile, The Reagan Wing of the Party and Minutemen American Defense announced a Washington State Illegal Immigration Summit with the nation's leading anti-illegal activist, Minutemen Founder, Jim Gilchrist on June 30 in Everett.

Don't get mad. Get even.

1. Completely close the borders to all new immigration until such time as all temporary visas currently in use have been veried as current and legal. Those that are not are immediately deported at their own expense OR if they are students within a minor number of credits for graduation either a very large fine or its equivalent in jail time.

Any illegal caught after the border is closed is shipped to hard labor duty at the ugliest of federal prisons.

After the years of checking visas, when the border is re-opened, no one is allowed in without a personal cash bond and English fluency. If they have not applied for and been granted citizenship within one years time, they forfeit their bond and are deported at their own expense.

2. I like how you criticize Medved by using other people's quotes that disagree with him, but post no actual arguments on either side of the debate.

That is, however, typical for your way of doing things, Doug.

3. I disagree strongly with your assertion that I typically don't present an argument on either side of an issue. I usually present volumes of argumentation on the right side of every issue. I am the proprietor of the Hard Right Cafe. I've been posting on this subject, extensively, for more than three years, Cliff, and the consensus of conservative thought on this is settled. Where have you been? If you believe in the foundation principles of the Republican Party and simply keep your ears open to "everyone who agrees with you 80% of the time," you will already have heard enough to convince you. If you are a "free thinker" or a political opportunist who holds no truths to be self-evident, you will never come to any final conclusions and stay in the middle, vacillating to and fro based on whatever suits your self-interest at the moment. If you are intellectually rigorous, yet inclined to formal relativism, you will, doubtless, be drawn to the "compromise" state of mind, as well as some form of "ism;" Liberalism, Fascism, Marxism, etc.
But if you truly are someone who is seeking guidance, start with these arguments on BOTH SIDES of the issue. If you're still in doubt, come back for more links.

4. I am a Medhead.

MOST of the time, I believe Mike's various analysis on various issues are cogent and on target.

But on this one, he has truly "drank the kool-aid."

Why Medved cannot see that this bill causes many more problems then it solves is beyond me.

How he cannot see that this is amnesty is beyond me. How he cannot begin to understand the impacts on already overburdened social programs (social security immediately comes to mind); or that this will serve to keep additional millions from coming here; or how this will address the MILLIONS of illegals here who will not become involved in this program is, admittedly, beyond me.

Mike tells us "we can't deport 12 million illegals."

OK, swell. What are we going to do with the say, 2 million or so that, for one reason or another, don't get with this program?

We, as a nation, MUST end ALL illegal alien entitlements.

Only then, will the plague of illegal aliens first, subside and then second, slow to a trickle, while those already here realize there is no future in staying.

5. For starters, no child born to parents in the United States illegally should be granted citizenship. Proof of citizenship must be required to register to vote, obtain a Driver's License, or before receiving "any" government-funded services or health care.

Here's an idea. Let's place one condition on our foreign aid to Guatemala. Let's arrange for a shuttle service to deport illegal Mexican aliens to Guatemala and escort them across their border with Mexico. Let's see how many times the illegals will want to travel the length of their nation to get back to our border. Would create quite a disincentive if we only did it 1% of the time.

Now all we need is a government that wants to protect our borders. Good luck!
