Luckily no one was hurt and we all (military and civilians) worked together to get everything cleaned up. Other than that all is going well. And to Scottd, I was talking to a Sunni truckdriver yesterday who is from Baghdad. He was here making a delivery to the base and... [read more]

by BerenForCongress, 06:35 AM, 0 Comments
Online audio - Steve Beren - From Socialist to Conservative (to listen to online audio, click link below) http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Changing_Worldviews/archives.asp?bcd=2007-5-30 Excellent online interview by Sharon Hughes of Changing Worldviews. Encore presentation of a 2004 interview with Steve Beren, who was a socialist and antiwar protestor during the Vietnam era. Beren, a Seattle-based speaker and writer, later became the Republican congressional candidate against far left Democratic incumbent Jim McDermott. In this broadcast, Beren tells Hughes how he became a radical leftist as... [read more]

A Republican Creed
by pudge, 02:47 PM, 9 Comments
I had some recent discussions recently about what made someone a Christian, and the topic of creeds came up. The creed is a statement of essential principles that -- according to the people who believe the creed -- every Christian must believe in. If you believe the creed, you're probably a Christian. If you don't, you're not. And in this discussion that many of us have been having for years about mainstream Republicans vs. social conservative Republicans and so on... [read more]

EFFin' Unsound Loves Me
by pudge, 11:45 AM, 1 Comments
Apparently I've made quite an impression over at EFFin' Unsound. Both of their editors in the last week have posted articles about me, attacking things I've posted here, and in my Slashdot journal. Apparently they didn't appreciate me pointing out the fact that Glen Greenwald lied about what Mike McConnell wrote in an op-ed, or that Michael Moore lied by saying his $12,000 gift to one of his critics was done with the "best intentions," when in fact it was... Does McKay know what GOP is about?
by BerenForCongress, 11:32 AM, 4 Comments
John McKay deservedly catches heat on this blog for his action, or lack thereof, with regard to the 2004 gubernatorial race. When McKay was speaking at the Mainstream Republicans conference this past Sunday, I was in Richland at the Evergreen Leadership conservative grassroots conference. But I did read the information on this blog, and in the Seattle press, about McKay's remarks. Seattle P-I reporter Neil Modie says that McKay was "well received" when he told the Mainstream audience, "We raise... [read more]

And the GOP Executive Candidate Is ...
by pudge, 07:45 PM, 1 Comments
I'm sitting in the convention now, and the mystery Republican candidate for Snohomish County Executive was just announced moments ago. It's Jack Turk. UPDATE 1: His campaign web site, I believe, is www.turk2007.com, though there's nothing there yet. He is not asking for any campaign donations, but instead is asking for donations -- his goal is $100,000 -- to give to charity. He was nominated by the convention unanimously, by voice vote. UPDATE 2: The Herald has posted its story... [read more]
Lou Dobbs: 4 decades of disruptive, destructive immigration policy
by BerenForCongress, 03:56 PM, 2 Comments
The following are excerpts from a recent Lou Dobbs commentary; the full text is available at http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/05/22/Dobbs.May23/index.html There are times when reason carries the mind no further, when the mind is carried from the rational across the penumbra of the absurd. That is where the leadership of the U.S. Senate now resides. What many once regarded as the world's great deliberative body looks more like a clamorous bazaar in which senators feverishly hawk duplicity and deceit as bright jewels of... [read more]

One more Democrat who understands the War on Terror
by mjcostello, 10:20 AM, 1 Comments
Is holding office and keeping their whacked-out liberal base the driving force behind Democrats' anti-war and anti-administration attacks? Why does it take a "former" Democrat senator's lone voice to lecture his colleagues in office on their hypocrisy and backwards agenda? What chances does he have of convincing Democrats like Reid and Pelosi that security must trump politics? None! The Left's Iraq Muddle Yes, it is central to the fight against Islamic radicalism. Thomas Sowell on the Amnesty Fraud
by BerenForCongress, 12:39 AM, 2 Comments
from: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/05/the_amnesty_fraud.html at May 22, 2007 - 02:45:00 AM CDT May 22, 2007 The Amnesty Fraud By Thomas Sowell Nothing is more common than political "solutions" to immediate problems which create much bigger problems down the road. The current immigration bill in the Senate is a classic example. The big talking point of those who want to legalize the illegal immigrants currently in the United States is to say that it is "unrealistic" to round up and deport 12 million... [read more]
Washington Times editorial: Immigration Debacle
by BerenForCongress, 12:35 AM, 0 Comments
From http://www.washingtontimes.com/op-ed/20070520-094056-4013r.htm The bipartisan immigration "reform" legislation pushed by Sens. Edward M. Kennedy and Jon Kyl and others, applauded by Michael Chertoff, the secretary of Homeland Security, and Carlos Gutierrez, the secretary of Commerce, is a disaster in the making. That is not so slowly becoming abundantly clear. It's a disaster for national security, for keeping Islamist jihadists out of the country, for exploding the costs of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, for preserving the rule of law, and for... McDermott may face up to $880,000 in legal fees for case
by BerenForCongress, 08:33 PM, 1 Comments
From http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/mcdermott-may-face-up-to-880kin-legal-fees-for-case-2007-05-21.html By Jackie Kucinich May 22, 2007 Nine years, several appeals and $880,000 later, a lawyer for House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) has said it is time for Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) to pony up the legal fees and settle a decade-long litigation battle. In a letter dated May 15, Boehner's lawyer, Michael Carvin, urged McDermott "to move forward with the determination of attorney's fees and costs," citing a 5-4 ruling earlier this month by the U.S. Court... Medved weighs in on the Senate Bill
by DougParris, 04:17 AM, 5 Comments
Well, I guess, any sentient being could have predicted it. While Americans across the nation boiled up in rage over the most recent permutation of the Kennedy/McCain/Bush Amnesty movement, while the legislative virus served, once again, to unite the conservative movement, and the whole blogosphere erupted in indignation at McCain, Bush and the RNC and the Senate phone lines were literally blown up by outraged callers, and it was discovered that the little "summit" meeting of far-left leaders from both... News from a Sandstorm
by TrueSoldier, 05:11 AM, 8 Comments
Hi everyone. I figured this would be a great time to send an update seeing as there is a pretty big sandstorm going on outside and we are taking cover. All is well here. I have heard some of the fighting off in the distant but have not heard anything about what went on. I figure no news is good news. On another note, I did run into a couple of guys from our neck of the woods. They are... [read more]

An update from TrueSoldier (16may)
by TrueSoldier, 05:50 AM, 12 Comments
Hi everyone. Just wanted to say hi from Iraq to all of you. I am doing fine and life is pretty good and very hot. As usual the MSM is blowing everything out of proportion. I am located in the Al Anbar Province in the Sunni Triangle and I can tell you that it is not all explosions and death like they make it out to be. The Marines that I have talked to have come under fire recently, but... [read more]

Special Request: Help Alaa come here legally from Iraq
by guitarplayr, 12:44 PM, 0 Comments
I don't easily jump on bandwagons, and immigration issues are one of my pet peeves. But in this case, I think this clearly shows the unfair nature of the present system, and it deserves some attention. In an age where illegal immigrants are waltzing in untouched and ending up as 1/3 of the California Prison population, it is cruelly ironic that some people who have highly sought skills cannot come in from other parts of the world legally. A prime example is Alaa,... [read more]

George Bush is Hitler
by pudge, 12:46 PM, 4 Comments
Prompted by the many claims of the far left that President Bush is a fascist, a Nazi, Big Brother, and so on, I recently recorded a new song, called George Bush is Hitler. My hope is that the aforementioned claimants will hear it and realize how silly they are. I doubt it, though.... [read more]
