The revenge of "Cheap Date" Conservative Christians

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061029/ap_on_el_ge/evangelicals_republicans

I thought this was about the best article summerizing the one of the two reasons behind the political landslide that is about to hit the Republican party. The article points out how the current Republican party is uninterested in conservative christians except near election time. Matt Rosenburg, a Sound Politics editior, called conservative pro-lifers "cheap dates" recently illustrates the disrespect and outright contempt that these folks have for nearly 45% of their base. The political stupidity of disrespecting your base is amazing.

However, the article only mentions one of the two major reason the Republicans will lose big. The other reason was their stance on immigration. Blue collar Republicans, a voting block that partly overlap the evangelical base, are furious over the Bush and his stance on immigration. Bush's policy was poorly sold and assumed that people had no memory of the first immigration scam. Here was the President holding border security hostage to immigration reform. In the end the President lost his credibility on fighting terrorism and lost immigration reform. The conservatives eventually won last week because the Republicans finally feel the need for our votes.

These two reasons combined are why Bush is down, why local races like Reichert v. Burner are successfully being nationalized by Democrats, why Democrats are more immune to Republican negative campaigning, and why in November the political landscape will have radically change.
