Replace the Pick-a-Party Primary

At www.replacethepickapartyprimary.blogspot.com, we are collecting reasons why voters do not like the pick-a-party primary. Please come to the site and register your comments about why you dislike/disdain/hate the pick-a-party primary. Soon we will be taking a poll on the best reasons to dislike the existing election system in Pierce County.

1. I'll hazard a guess and say the #1 reason is "It's the law". That means venting about it accomplishes nothing.

Parties have the right and responsibility to choose who will represent them in an election. That's what a primary is for, as opposed to a general election where you can pick "one from Column A, one from Column B...". If you refuse to identify with a party, you have no right to have a say in who represents that party. Just as you have no right to choose who my attorney will be if I decide to fight the primary in court (which I won't).

That's the basis of the law. It's kinda refreshing to see a court ruling that actually mirrors common sense.

2. Pick-a-party allows the major political parties to define who YOU are. If you do not meet THEIR
definition of what constitutes a "good" Democrat or Republican, then you will find yourself disenfranchised from the political system. In this state, a person has always been a Democrat,a Republican --or Libertarian, Green, whatever --because he/she defines himself/herself that way.
All that is about to change, and it's an outrage!
