Names Left Off Ballots in Snohomish County

My wife called me this morning, upon going to vote in person at the Snohomish County Auditor's office, that my name (Chris Nandor) was left off the ballot (for Henning PCO). It is on the paper ballot we received in the mail. She notified them of the problem and added me as a write-in candidate, and they said they would look into it, but at this point we don't know what caused the problem, what races it may affect (I am running uncontested, but there are several contested PCO races), and so on. I'm headed in to vote at noon, and I'll try to get to the bottom of it.

Update: I went and voted, and where my name should have been, there was a blank space. When I checked the space next to the blank space, and then got to the end, it showed my name in the review screen (and was printed to the paper ballot), but it just wasn't showing up in the selection section. Elections Manager Carolyn Diepenbrock told me they looked into it and apparently, this is only happening with my name, the name of the guy who was in the paper this morning criticizing the Auditor's office. Better me than someone in a contested race, but it's something they desperately need to fix for the general election. Posted by pudge at September 19, 2006 10:35 AM | Email This

1. Two comments, one, all PCO contests are decided during the Primary, there are no PCO contests in the general election.

Two, even if you are running uncontested you still need to get a certain number of votes in order to win. You need to get at least 10% of the amount that the top candidate of your party gathers in your precinct in order for you to be elected.

This shouldn't be a problem for you since nearly everyone was forced to vote my mail in Snohomish County and you stated it was on the paper ballot. probably less than 1% voted down at the election office, wish it had been more.

Have previously checked the results from 2004 primary and nearly all unopposed Republican PCO candidates in Snohomish County received at least 30% of the amount of the top candidate.

2. Yes, yes, and yes. :-)

When I mentioned "general election" the point was not about PCO races, or my race; the point was that they said they did not know what caused what happened to my name, so there's no reason to think that it won't happen to some other name in some other race in November.
