From The Everett Herald: GOP Good Fortune?

Syndicated columnist Mona Charen has an interesting column online at The Everett Herald's opinion page (not sure if it ran in the paper).

President Bush's fusillade of speeches over the past number of days have reminded us of the man we saw in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. After months of inanition, he seems to have received a shot of adrenaline.

In a speech on Wednesday, the president came out swinging at those who have misrepresented the Guantanamo Bay detainees. "These aren't common criminals," the president declared, "or bystanders accidentally swept up on the battlefield. ... Those held ... include suspected bomb makers, terrorist trainers ... and potential suicide bombers. One detainee held at Guantanamo told a questioner questioning him - he said this: 'I'll never forget your face. I will kill you, your brothers, your mother and sisters.'"

Read the rest here. Is the GOP finally making a comeback? Writing at Town Hall, Hugh Hewitt seems to think things are finally getting in gear, as in a coordinated national strategy.

But to borrow a phrase from hurricane season, perhaps we are just languishing in the eye of the storm...

1. Think I'll choose to believe the best in this case! really, the truth simply has to get out on all this and we win. Period. Whoever wins in November, we just need bold leaders who will not sit on their hands and blame this country for all the problems of the world. President Bush certainly has the right mindset and attitude. Keep on preachin' it, President Bush!

2. The only comeback Republicans can make is with the support of the MSM to get their words out. Maybe in light of the 9/11 aniversary the MSM has simply let Americans hear a few of Bush's words, for a change.

A month ago Senator Rick Santorum gave a speech televised on CSPAN on the war on Islamic Facism that should be a must-see for all Americans. The MSM couldn't have cared less. But if we had a media not working to undermine an adminstration every single day, maybe we'd have a country with people knowledgeable of the real threats we face.

I know, wishful thinking. More fantasy than possible.
