City Council Set to Approve Plan for 520 with no funding source

The Seattle City cabal is set to approve the euphemistic "Pacific Interchange" option for the 520 replacement mega-project, one that even Nickels says has no secure funding source. Nevermind that he's taking about $2 billion of that funding source for his gold plated tunnel.

Perusing the plan for this option, it calls for two general purpose lanes in each direction and one HOV lane in each direction. So don't look for any congestion relief with this project either. But we're getting ahead of ourselves, there's still years of bickering over environmental impact studies, mitigation, neighborhood meetings, and 'concessions' for the Arboretum, native plants, wetlands, Husky stadium, the UW, Montlake, and on and on. The current cost estimate for this project is at $5.3 billion, and rising no doubt.

Where's the funding source for this going to come from? Get ready for another MVET coming soon to a vote near you.

1. With the new push for tolls, it appears that predetermining the funding is no longer necessary....

2. I think tolls are great (as long as they are retired when the project pays off), but I really hate that they glob it up with unecessary expenses and make everything harder to do than it needs to be.

3. I would just like to ask our Mayor one really tiny question if I may:

Why are we building a 10 Billion dollar tunnel to bring cars into downtown Seattle when we don't want more cars in downtown Seattle?

Just thought I would ask!
