In this story http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/09/10/wirq10.xmlfrom the UK's Telegraph, the prisoners of ABu Grahib prison are wanting the American military back after the prison has been under the control of the IRaqi's for only a week. Here are some quotes from the prisoners:
"The Americans were better than the Iraqis. They treated us better," said Khalid Alaani, who was held on suspicion of involvement in Sunni terrorism.
Haleem Aleulami, who was released from the jail last week, three weeks after being arrested in Ramadi for carrying a pistol in his car, said the Americans had treated him better when they ran the jail. He claimed that visits from the International Red Cross staff had dried up and accused local human rights workers of being members of Shia groups who turned a blind eye to problems in the jail.
And Khalid Alaani, who was also picked up in Ramadi suspected of involvement in Sunni terrorism, said: "We preferred the Americans. We asked to move with them to Baghdad airport because we knew the treatment would be changed because we know what the Iraqis are. When the Americans left everything changed."
But didn't the lefties claim that the Bush Administration had such horrible torture policies and that this was the norm under American control not the random acts of a very few soliders at ABu Grahib? I guess the prisoners don't believe that.
We withdraw from Iraq as the left wants. News items lead with, "the brutal Iraqi regime left in place by the Bush Administration".
Posted by: Bill Cruchon on September 10, 2006 02:39 PMBut this story is one of my favorite of the year. I had a lefty friend who was constantly wailing about torture at Abu Ghrahib. Talking points all the way. I kept asking him if there was a difference between real torture and the relatively minor hazing that was perpetrated by some American soldiers, who were condemned and subject to prosecution. Of course, he would tolerate no rational comparisons. To him, a dog barking at a captive terrorist was equivalent to the Nazi death camps.
I forwarded this story in to him immediately. I can't wait to hear his wormy little response.
