Understanding Islam?!

Okay, before any RDDBs reading this post jump on my case let me just say that I know plenty of patriotic, kind and good Muslims so this is not directed at the religion itself.
That being said, I was driving through Redmond today and saw a new yardsign. This wasn't Ross Hunter, finally posting some notice although the one's I saw may help him with his "jihad" on education. No, these stated, in "patriotic" Saudi colors (yellow and green) "Understanding Islam" and announced an informational presentation happening this weekend at the Redmond Regional Library. I couldn't find any information on the web about it (curious that the KCLS is choosing not to post that particular event) but it should be interesting for anyone who wants to attend. I assume the talk will highlight all the peaceful aspects of Islam. It's just too bad they can't point these things out to all the terrorists around the world currently killing people in the name of Allah.

1. I saw that sign, too, the other day while driving through Redmond!!
It certainly got my attention. A bit unsettling, to say the least! Jihad in Redmond?

2. OK, then. I look forward to the "Understanding Christianity" presentation at one of our local libraries. Oh wait: Would this not be a church/state issue? Never mind.

5. My bet is that it will be presented it in a politically correct light as much as possible. Seems like the Quran is subject to alot of variations of interpretation. It seems like a vengeful religion and Jihadists use it as such, but other practicioners use it in a more peaceful and less ascerbic way. One must ask question; How does the Quran really regard the infidel ?

6. You can find the details of this event at http://www.muslim-calendar.com/event.asp?event_id=6578&date=8%2F26%2F2006 .

Note that the announcement says that this is a “Da'wah event” which means a Muslim proselytization event. I contacted the King County library board to ask them if Muslim proselytization is an accepted use of these library facilities and they said that anyone from *any religion* is allowed to use “the library meeting for such religious meetings”.

I encourage folks to attend these events and ask the hard-hitting questions that will point out that the “politically-correct”/candy-coated version of Islam is false.

Please read http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/012746.php to intellectually equip yourself and consider asking the following questions:

* Around the world Muslims commit abominable acts such as sawing people's heads of and murdering women and children in the name of Islam, why are moderate Muslims not more successful at refuting these terrorists on Islamic grounds?
* Why have Muslim leaders not issued a fatwa against bin Laden for the 9/11 terrorist attacks or his declaration of war on us? Can you [Muslim presenters] give me your word that you will ask them to issue one against Osama bin Laden?
* What is the relevance of Mohamed's immoral (e.g., marrying Aisha a 6 year old and having sex with her when she was 9) and warlike life (e.g., conquered non-Muslims by the sword) for today's Muslims. Why he is called in the Koran'an "uswa hasana" (i.e., "excellent model of conduct") and in Islamic tradition "al-insan al-kamil"?
* Is the reason why virtually the first act of Khomeini in Iran was to lower the marriageable age of girls to nine because Mohamed married had sex with Aisha when she was 9?
* In Islam non-Muslims such as Christians and Jews are considered dhimmis ("guilty" and protected") who were subjected to humiliating restrictions such as not being allowed to build synagogues and churches taller than mosques or their testimony not being valued as much as Muslim’s in Islamic courts. Can you elaborate on the concept of dhimmi and what was required of dhimmis under Islamic rule to remain alive as "protected people"?

7. On the rare occasion when "peaceful" muslim spokespersons are asked for comment on their murderous religion (usually following a killing spree in the name of allah), they invariably say "Islam does not condone the killing of innocents," a carefully crafted response. To finish their statement, they should add "Of course, anyone who does not follow islam is guilty and an infidel, and must be killed."

8. All totalitarian belief systems are pure garbage.

Only secular humanism has a future on this planet. We need to use human reason - not naive religiosity based on primitive superstition.

Read the Bible - it is full of stoning and persecution. Same sorry crap - different wrapper.

9. The difference, Shrike (and I'm not Christian, btw) is that if some radical Christian used the Old Testament as the basis for kidnapping and beheading people, doing a suicide bombing, or sending biotoxins through the mail, my guess is that virtually all members of the Christian community would speak out in outrage about that Christian and vehemently deny that what he did had anything to do with Christianity. In addition, if a Christian leader who did speak out against the outrage of using the OT in that way were threatened with death by one of the radicals there would be loud and universal support for the leader. This is not the case with Islam. The views of the radicals are not only tolerated but the suppression of more moderate views are also tolerated. The problem isn't all religion, but rather one specific religion, and the left here in the US (who believe they embody secular humanism) are the big apologists. They're the ones who call Islam a "religion of peace," while the radicals make no bones about the fact they view Islam as a religion that rightfully should be soaked in blood.
