The Seattle P.I. recently disclosed that it will not participate in a probe by the Washington News Council into their series "Conduct Unbecoming" an obviously biased attack on the King County Sheriff's Department.

When pressed for an explanation why, the management at the P.I. made vague references to conflict of interest by 4 members of the News Council. The members offered to recuse themselves from the inquiry but the P.I. still refuses to participate.
What does this say about the P.I's confidence in their ability to withstand an unbiased public inquiry into their series on the King County Sheriff's department. The P.I. has been screaming for open public oversight of the Sheriff's department but obviously feels they are above any kind of oversight.
What if you had a complaint about a Police Officer and their department simply chose not to participate in any investigation or oversight?
Are we ready to hand so much unchecked power over to the press in this country? Print what they want whatever their agenda and then simply ignore calls to prove the veracity of their stories.
The P.I. seems to be having a problem with biased reporting (or manufacturing) of news similar to Rueters troubles in Lebanon, see link:
