I just attnded the funeral service of my nephew (22 yrs old) who served our country. He was a proud soldier. His service ended in December 2005. He was killed in an auto-crash on Tuesday of last week. In the "program" that is given to each in attendance, there on the inner fold was a poem he wrote, and it reads:

My Poem-by Aaron George Nichols ~ 2002
As time fades away I can see myself getting older, my senses more bolder, my thoughts more pure, something my heart did cure.
As a little boy and as a man I am free, something my country gave to me. My freedom is a great thing. So I stand to choose to fight upon it, for you and me.
As time fades away, I feel my soul getting much stronger, which lets me know the US ARMY will last much longer.
The honor of being in this army is too good to be true, for I love fighting to protect the colors of Red, White and Blue.
HOOOAHH!!!!!

Aaron wrote these words while stationed in Iraq in 2002.
Here is a young man, much older than his 22 years, who make us "grown ups' who bicker about politics think.
We all need to be grateful for those young men like Aaron.

That short poem sums up the sentiment of the majority of men and women I knew while serving in Iraq. It is these young men and women that we owe a great deal to and we shall all be indebted to for years to come.
