On April 13, 2009 SB 5808 was filed into law to address the annexation of fire districts into cities and towns.
The law was presented as a way to help fire district employees retain benefit packages but it had other harmful effects to taxpayers of that area.
This law creates a new right for cities and towns to expand their boundaries without any input or vote from the residents that will be affected by this change.
Signing Referendum 72 will bring the vote to the people!

The Tacoma News Tribune ran this story this past week. Tacoma PD chief Don Ramsdell says that they 'made a mistake' by paying officers for a 10 hour shift to play in a basketball game for charity. They also were paid to practice for the game. Not only did they get paid while not doing police work, the game did not last 10 hours, and other officers had to be paid overtime to cover the missed shifts. This infuriates me, especially in light of my oft told story about Patty Murray purposefully and willfully ignoring the will of her constituents and then bragging about it by calling them stupid.
