Texas Holdem - Putin vs President ....

Obama: Putin has aces in the hole with two aces showing on the flop. As the last two cards are dealt, Obama, with nothing, bluffs. Putin takes the pot.

Reagan: Putin has kings in the hole with two kings and two aces showing. Reagan goes all in. Valdimir folds.

Know your opponent.

1. Warren: That's pretty dumb -- even for SP.

What pot has Putin won? Was it the pot he was playing for?

Putin's goals are to align Ukraine with Russia and to avoid having NATO member states on Russia's borders. Do you think he is achieving those goals?

What would you do?

Posted by: scottd on March 2, 2014 09:25 PM
2. scottd, that was pretty dumb. Putin's goals are to become the first emperor of the world. That is the entire game. For this pot it was Russia expanding vs. keeping Russia contained. The analogy was apt.

Hairy

Posted by: Hairy Buddah on March 2, 2014 10:57 PM
3. That's stupid, Hairy. How has Russian influence expanded?

A few years ago, all of Ukraine elected a pro-Russia government and Ukraine was backing off on earlier moves to join NATO. Do you think Ukraine will be aligning with Russia now? How long until the country has full NATO membership?

A few years ago, Russia already had multiple large bases on the Crimean peninsula and that's what they still have.

Sounds to me like Putin has lost more than he gained, but if you want to nurse your Cold War fantasies, be my guest. Still waiting to hear what the US should do or should have done...

Posted by: scottd on March 3, 2014 06:44 AM
4. Reagan: Putin has kings in the hole with two kings and two aces showing. Reagan goes all in. Valdimir folds.

What kind of idiot fawning hero worship is this? It may be a conservative's wet dream, but it doesn't hold water.

If you're going to be using a poker analogy, it would be this -- the US and Soviets borrowed lots of money to play poker, and Soviet debts were due earlier and had less favorable terms.

Oh, and the Soviets had an opponent that was going senile during the game.

@2: Putin's goals are to become the first emperor of the world.

You're not even making any sense. Methinks you are completely lacking a sense of scale. Supporting separatists in Russian border areas is a lot different than invading Poland.

Posted by: demo kid on March 3, 2014 06:52 AM
5. C'mon, guys - Hairy Buddah obviously looked Putin in the eye, saw into his soul, and immediately recognized Putin's goals are to become the first emperor of the world. Now, that's how real many manly men-men make foreign policy decisions. (That, and weirdly empty poker analogies.)

6. @5: C'mon, guys - Hairy Buddah obviously looked Putin in the eye, saw into his soul, and immediately recognized Putin's goals are to become the first emperor of the world.

It's not twerps like Hairy that I get annoyed with -- it's more the professional talking heads that believe in the sainthood of Reagan. As far as military conflicts, the closest that the actor got to a real war was handing weapons over to both sides in a bloody conflict that killed hundreds of thousands of people, and invading a small Caribbean country.

For geopolitical strategy, Reagan simply got the Soviets to overspend in response to posturing. That may have been suitable at the time -- although it set the stage for massive deficits from military spending -- but how would it apply now? The Russians have a more strategically sized military, funded with oil money. We have a military worn out from two wars, and a country not likely willing to commit troops to another extended conflict.

Therefore, tell me oh great conservative gurus, what would a President Romney have done? Grimaced harder on TV? Postured better (and been ignored)?

7. Tensor,
"First"? You mean Alexander the Great, the Roman Caesars and other "emperors" weren't? :-)

Something I remember from college days is that Russia, due to its cold weather region, is always in need of a warm-water, year-round port. This is its history, no matter the ruler. So, this is why Ukraine and Georgia matters to them. Otherwise, they are left with Sochi. W/O at least Russian friendly leaders in those two countries, they are hurting. I don't believe Putin wants to take over the world or even all the countries of formal Soviet Block. I agree with ScottD @3 that the move could backfire for Putin in the Ukraine. This move will galvanize the anti-Russia politicos in the country. They may even give Russia the boot on the base Russia still holds, but I doubt they have the power to do that right now.

To the right wing pundits (ala Sarah, I told you so, Palin), what exactly would you like done differently? You can say "I told you so" all you want and it is meaningless without an alternate policy proposal. What do you expect? Do you want the US to send in troops? I am sure the Ukraine government wouldn't like US meddling anymore than it likes Russia meddling. Just what would the right wing commentators like the US to do? I am sure Rand Paul wouldn't support military going into the region. It will be interesting where those on the right stand. Will it be with the libertarian wing or with the neoconservatives.

Posted by: tc on March 3, 2014 11:14 AM
8. tc, as you noted, the US and NATO have little ability to project force into Ukraine, and even less political support to do so, leaving us to ask Warren from where his Pres. Zombie Reagan obtained his much-better hand. (Zombies are probably pretty good at bluffing, though, what with their dead eyes and all...)

Posted by: tensor on March 3, 2014 11:57 AM
9. tensor: The US and NATO have plenty ability to project force, but at what cost and to what end?

Putin hasn't gained anything militarily. Russia already had the ports and bases in Crimea, a long term treaty to keep them, and a sympathetic population in that immediate region.

After his bone-headed move, he faces former satellite states that are likely to be more cooperative with NATO than ever. He has moved Ukraine into a much more anti-Russian stance. If he doesn't back off, he is probably going to lose membership in the G8 and G20, which will be bad for his oligarch pals. Those pals might even have assets seized in the West.

Strategically, Putin's doing a great job digging his own hole. Why would we want to stop him?

12. Rags,

You're free to address any of the points scottd and tc raised, regarding Putin, Russia, and Ukraine. That you chose not to do so just tells us that, once again, you've got nothing.

Oh, and from your 1895 test for Kanas schoolchildren: how many republics did Europe have in 1895? Can you name them? (I'll give you a hint: in his 1908 science-fiction novel "Red Star," Bogdanov has one character ask another, "what are the two Philistine republics in Europe worth?")

Exactly. This is less to do with wise geopolitics, and more to do with war porn. A conflict makes no sense, even though Warren seems to suggest that we should make it seem like we're ready to go to war.

Posted by: demo kid on March 3, 2014 01:46 PM

warrenpeterson, ah yes. Who can forget how well President Reagan knew his foreign opponents and went "all in".

Remember when the Soviet puppet government of the People's Republic of Poland declared Martial Law to crush the pro-democracy Solidarity movement in December 1981 and Reagan went "all in" and suspended most favored nation trade status until 1987 and vetoed Poland's application for membership in the International Monetary Fund?

Remember when the Iranian funded Hezbollah bombed our US embassy in Lebanon killing 17 Americans in 1983 and then the Iranian funded Hezbollah bombed the annex in 1984 killing 24 and Reagan went "all in" in 1985 trading arms for hostages with Iran to free the hostages held by Hezbollah in Lebanon?

Or how about that time Reagan went "all in" in Afghanistan bringing in Islamist freedom fighters from Saudi Arabia and training Osama bin Laden? How'd that turn out?

Yep, the Gipper really knew his opponents and always got the best of them. Just ask Oliver North.

Reagan's "all-in" actions supported the pro-democracy Solidarity movement in December 1981 and helped defeat the Soviet puppet government of the People's Republic of Poland . . . dumb-ass. That is a win.

Reagan's "all-in" actions also used funds available in a deal already made with Iran to evade radical leftist Americans bent on supporting enemies of America and ultimately defeated the murderous communist government in central America they supported . . . idiot. Another win.

Terrorists killed Marines in Lebanon not Reagan, and Slick Willie trained Osama Bin Laden in Mogadishu not Islamist freedom fighters from Saudi Arabia . . . bozo. Won again.

20 years from now the Republicans will support Obamacare.

Damn, at least the Democrats stand for principles. Unfortunately they are the wrong ones. But at least they stand for them.

Well, I have enough confidence in the people of the 1st District to know they are not going to vote for an Amnesty advocate. Yes, they rather have the Democrat win. For in the end, the Republican will be just like the Democrat Party because they have proven they have no principle and will cave on every issue!

"... a deal already made with Iran to" trade arms for hostages, in contravention of his own stated policy on treating with terrorists. Fixed that for you. You're welcome.

Heck, I think that simply selling arms to both sides in a brutal conflict that killed over a million people, and supporting right-wing death squads in Central America on top of that, was reason enough to spit on the guy's grave.

For the sake of liberal morons here at SP (like scott dipshit) who are too frigging dumb for their own survival, the Ukraine was an essential component of the USSR.

Major key oil pipelines run through the Ukraine and Vladimir Putin is winning his nascent tactical battles in a war of intended dominance and re-installation of a new "Soviet-Union" by re-establishing this tactical advantage. At the same time assholes like bongo refuse to allow us to drill for oil on our own territory. How fucking stupid can you get?

Showcase; scottdipshit et al

Especially because you are a liberal history teacher, it is obvious why you never read history. In 1938 Hitler seized the Sudetenland for the exact same reasons as Putin is usurping the Ukraine. It is interesting to note that at the same time Roosevelt openly weakened our economy in the face of Hitler's obvious aggression.

An American President with basic leadership skills would have anticipated this and done something to position America to respond to Russia from a position of strength years ago. Even lying liar Bongo said this in 1998. Today Bongo cuts our military, screws his own citizens on health care, weakens our economy, and cuts our military in the face of a despot like Putin, and a moron like scottd asks, what (if you were Putin) would you do?

Anyone who misses this is either a moron, or a liberal (i.e. both) . . . Thanks for the model of dim-wittidness, scottd.

50. So, to recap:

Warren makes the unfounded claim that a Pres. Zombie Reagan would have had a much better poker hand than the current President Obama does, and that Zombie Reagan would have played this hand in an appropriate manner.

The peanut gallery here all enthusiastically agree, without a one of them describing an alternate course of action for real President Obama to take -- or even saying why NATO or the US needs or should take action on this matter now.

The peanut gallery does manage to give examples of real President Reagan's superior foreign policy, as they see it: groveling to Muslim extremists in Iran, illegally selling weapons to terrorists, illegally diverting the profits to other terrorists, and being wholly ineffectual in dealing with Russia's imperial foreign policy in Europe. (The last, of course, is the substance, so far as it exists, of their complaint against Obama.)

I'd thought Warren's original post was pretty weak sauce, but it has provided manure sufficient for the (u)SP clown show to, yet again, entertain us with another round of their "expertise." Now, all we need is KDS to jump in with a groundless claim that Warren is completely correct, and we're done.

The fact is that's your opinion. What, if anything, should we do regarding Ukraine and Russia?

"Quit living in the past and pondering Reagan good or bad. Own the failures of the President you idolize."

53. "Quit living in the past and pondering Reagan good or bad."

Tell it to Warren, chump. Like it or not, what Reagan would do is the subject of this post. Texas holdem? No, Beruit was Texas foldem. Reagan did nothing in retaliation whatsoever to the Iranian-funded Hezbollah following the attack. What'd he do? Cut and run. That's what Reagan did then and that's what Reagan would do now. Then he'd kiss Putin's ass just like he kissed the Ayatollah's ass.

Texas holdem? Really? Did you wingnut trolls know that your hero Reagan sided with Saddam against Israel in 1982 after the Israeli attack on Iraq's nuclear facility? As if that weren't enough of a foreign policy success story, Reagan then gave Saddam what he needed to start his biological and chemical WMD programs. Saddam, biological and chemical WMD's and nuclear facilities. Other than the 60,000 of his own citizen's killed by WMD's shortly after, mostly women and children, of course, how'd that eventually work out? Was that another one of Reagan's foreign policy success stories?

Did you know that on the day of his impeachment, Clinton's approval ratings were higher than Reagan's ever were? LMFAO!

They no longer believe what they are told because they KNOW what affects their lives and the disconnect between the two.

My prediction, a formerly unspoken 'if' prediction, but now a WHEN prediction, is that sometime between election day and January 5, 2015, Harry Reid will find a moment to unilaterally and conveniently change back the filibuster rule.

Tomorrow is the start of a beautiful, truly HOPE-full season - one of my favorites. I hope you find the peace for which you are desperately in need, I truly hope you experience the happiness of the season. As the Church re-awakens, as the earth awakens in the coming spring, I hope the same for you. Good luck and God speed.

You wish.

"failure of Obama foreign policy"

I'm sure you'll eventually get around to telling us what you'd do different. Something successful, of course, and to stay with the real topic, in keeping with the deification of Ronald Reagan.

"As the Church re-awakens"

As the Pope fumigates. About time. If only the GOP would do the same.

57. "I post a link to a detailed article, based on hard hitting interview with Obama, not my opinion, with plenty of reasoned critical analysis on Syria, Iran, Palestine, Israel and the new Crimean situation."

Someone still reads The Weekly Standard? Let's take a stroll down memory lane, to how well they handled foreign policy in the past:

Following the attacks, the Standard advanced what became virtually all the noteworthy tactics of the Bush administration's "war on terror": focusing the response to 9/11 on Iraq using flawed and flimsy evidence (11/24/03), widening U.S. foreign policy interventions far and wide (11/01/04), dismissing all calls for even partial withdrawals of U.S. troops (5/10/07), shunning the recommendations of the realist-dominated Iraq Study Group (12/11/06) and escalating troop levels in what became known as "the surge" (1/21/08).

But enough about miserably failed Republican foreign policies, and the chicken hawks who flog them. Tell us what we should do to reform our "shambles" of a foreign policy.

58. As the Pope fumigates

Yep. And, it's about time,

Pope Francis as strict in the doctrine as Bendedict, if not more so. Sucker.

It says a great deal about how susceptible we are to media narratives and headlines -- and how lazily we accept them as gospel-truths -- that even those of us who are actively engaged with our Catholicism accept rather simplistic interpretations of our Popes. The occupants of Peter's chair are all, by necessity, complex men whose intelligences are woven through the warp and woof of faith and reason. Many who will openly admire Benedict for his deep intellect and his doctrinal clarity, will fail to see his humility or his warmth. Those who see nothing but humility and warmth in Francis seem not to notice that this well-educated man doesn't move on doctrine, except as to how we might best serve it within humanity.

Go look up what Francis says about you baby killers, about you destroyers of man's self worth when you destroy work for handouts.

And where are we 2 days after warrenpeterson playing the idiot savant analyzed the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a Texas hold 'em hand with Putin taking the pot with the nut hand from the weak handed poor playing Obama?

Yesterday the Ruble fell to all time lows against the Dollar and the Euro.

Today, warrenpeterson's pot winner, Putin, went on TV and told us there are no Russian troops in Crimea and that Obama and the west had experimented in Ukraine 'like a scientist would conduct experimentation on lab rats.'.

Meanwhile back in the US of A the S&P 500 rallied to a record high, the DOW rose 225.83 and the Nasdaq Composite added 74.67 to reach its highest mark since the dot com bubble in 2000 on the news of easing tensions in the Russian/Ukrainian conflict.

Hey Warren, don't give up your day job to play poker or write political analysis.

Does Obama have nothing and bluffed?

Show us your brilliance.

63. Putin does not care what Obama bloviates or what the feckless UN portends to do - bottom line. I don't feel that much anger toward Russia in one way, because BO is getting a dose of the disrespect that he sends out to those who disagree with his statist policies. Putin is a more solid and tougher leader and no less anti-western that this current presidente, who has demonstrated he does not walk his talk, anti-semitic and racist leanings. Face it lefists, you have the stupid Federal Government you deserved, having voted for this corrupt statist sorry excuse for a leader who will serve out the remainder of his term. You trolls are pathetic and are afraid to admit that Mr. Obama is sadly lacking and is the worst president ever. Never mind, its a waste of words - you trolls will not change your spots.

However, it appears that Putin won't be stopped in seizing control of the portion of Ukraine that he desires. As for cold war - Putin clearly wants "Game on" again. Obama is no Reagan, so I don't see Mr. Putin being deterred. I don't like the predicament and whether it is called Texas hold 'em or stupefied/wussified foreign policy makes little difference. The world has become a more dangerous place since BHO has been President.

"Putin does not care what Obama bloviates or what the feckless UN portends to do"

Then why did Putin lie today in his press conference when everyone in the world knows Russian troops are in Crimea?

QUESTION: Mr President, a clarification if I may. The people who were blocking the Ukrainian Army units in Crimea were wearing uniforms that strongly resembled the Russian Army uniform. Were those Russian soldiers, Russian military?

VLADIMIR PUTIN: Why don't you take a look at the post-Soviet states. There are many uniforms there that are similar. You can go to a store and buy any kind of uniform.

QUESTION: But were they Russian soldiers or not?

VLADIMIR PUTIN: Those were local self-defence units.

Occam's razor tells us Putin lied about Russian soldiers in Crimea because he cares very much about Obama, the UN and the markets.

I believe our president, Obama, responded with something like 'I know (the Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin seems to have a different set of lawyers making a different set of interpretations, but I don't think that's fooling anybody'

But I guess the (un)SP peanut gallery has been fooled by Putin.

You know you'll never get an answer, but scottd's question is an important one.

Putin just spent a large sum of money building out Sochi as propaganda to attract much needed foreign investment in Russia. The Russian national bank spent an additional $10B (2% of its foreign currency reserves) defending the free falling Ruble yesterday.

With Putin's impetuous invasion of Ukraine, that money is lost. He's "won" nothing. He's lost money his government and country badly need. He's lost the respect of his people. He's not fooling the Russian people either.

We should not beat our chests. This crazy man who has backed himself into a corner controls a nuclear arsenal. He just may decide that if he can't win and if his country is not with him he'll go out and we'll all go out in a blaze of glory.

Pull your head out of your own ass deranged moron.
CNN and the White House reported these facts today all over the media. Are you incarcerated somewhere?

Still, even someone of your obvious pathetic limitations is capable of watching the news.

Rose Gottemoeller, the State Department's senior arms control official, has repeatedly raised the missile tests with Russian officials, who have responded that they investigated the matter and consider the case to be closed.
This reminds one of what anyone asking bongo and his acolytes gets for information.

But, the bongo administration officials are not yet ready to formally declare the tests of the missile, which has not been deployed, to be a violation of the 1987 treaty.http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/30/world/europe/us-says-russia-tested-missile-despite-treaty.html?_r=0

First you insist that bongo is masterful at deterring Putin's aggression in Ukraine even while Putoin is invading the country. Then you truly outdo yourself with this lunatic gem.
"Occam's razor tells us Putin lied about Russian soldiers in Crimea because he cares very much about Obama, the UN and the markets."

Is this pretend "Occam's razor" of yours a test to see how completely deranged you can get?

you didn't know what you were talking about.

See, the article you just cited from JAN. 29, 2014 does not say the Obama administration cancelled the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).
In fact, it says the Obama administration completed the information gathering started by Bush in 2000 on the new missile systems compliance with IMF and brought the out of compliance situation to the attention of NATO in a closed door meeting.

Can you even read?

You are so easy.

Being a vicious pea-brained nit-wit, it is obvious that you are so emotionally bound on pathetic attempts to insult me that you completely missed the point . . . again.

Weakness is NEVER a good defense and bongo is so obviously weak and incompetent it is breathtaking.

You call bongo's tactics "masterful." While Bongo continues to retreat from strict enforcement of the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) in effect abrogating his duty as our president in the face of our enemy, all his State Department's senior arms control official has . . . is reticence and weak excuses.

When he abrogated America's treaties with Poland and the Czech Republic to station anti-ballistic missile systems in those countries as part of his idiotic "reset" (surrender and provocation to trouble), bongo invited Putin to invade his neighbors and fund our enemies around the world like Iran.

Then Bongo and his administration weakened the START talks to a point where we lost good weapons and Russia gave up obsolete junk. Now today as Russia invades the Ukraine and Crimea they also test a missile in violation of several treaties made to prevent such action and you say bongo is "masterful."

Now as bongo stands there making empty threats, he only proves to Putin and the world he is a weak big-mouth coward that Putin can punk. And dumb-shits like you think bongo is "masterful."

Anyone stupid enough to believe Putin cares what the Russian people think and that Putin lied about Russian soldiers in Crimea because he cares very much about bongo, the UN and the markets, needs to be locked up somewhere and looked at by a good doctor. There is definitely something wrong with you. It makes me wonder how you make it through the day and maybe I was right that you are incarcerated somewhere.

So . . . given your complete stupidity and inanity, if I look like a foolish ass to the likes of someone like you, what does that say?
Very amusing indeed.

Putin is a former KGB and the only leader in America who might consider a substantive retaliation would be a former Navy Seal - who like Putin would preach take no prisoners, none of which are running for POTUS in 2016.

Re: Guns in the United States

In 1865 a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States.

In 1881 a left wing radical Democrat shot James Garfield, President of the United States who later died from the wound.

In 1963 a radical left wing socialist shot and killed John F. Kennedy, President of the United States.

In 1975 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at Gerald Ford, President of the United States.

In 1983 a registered Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan, President of the United States.

In 1984 James Hubert, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 22 people in a McDonalds restaurant.

In 1986 Patrick Sherrill, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office.

In 1990 James Pough, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office.

In 1991 George Hennard, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 23 people in a Luby's cafeteria.

In 1995 James Daniel Simpson, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 5 coworkers in a Texas laboratory.

In 1999 Larry Asbrook, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 8 people at a church serv ice.

In 2003 Douglas Williams, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people at a Lockheed Martin plant.

In 2007 a registered Democrat named Seung - Hui Cho, shot and killed 32 people in Virginia Tech.

In 2010 a mentally ill registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner, shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed 6 others.

In 2011 a registered Democrat named James Holmes, went into a movie theater and shot and killed 12 people.

In 2012 Andrew Engeldinger, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people in Minneapolis.

In 2013 a registered Democrat named Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people in a school.

As recently as Sept 2013, an angry Democrat shot 12 at a Navy ship yard.

One could go on, but you get the point, even if the media does not. Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns.

Not one NRA member, Tea Party member, nor Republican conservative was involved in these shootings and murders.

ONLY SOLUTION: It should be illegal for Democrats to own guns.

83. A search reveals that KDS could have pulled his cut&paste list of shooters from any number of sources, and they're all the usual suspects - freepers, Alex Jones, Brietbart. Apparently it started with some whack former Republican mayor of San Diego who got out of the draft because of a severe case of acne. But he's a keyboard warrior now! Too funny.

There's also plenty of sites bothering to debunk the lunatics. But one thing interesting about that is on sites where there are comments, wingnuts show up in droves and, besides the usual nonsensical hate they spew, they use the same tactic employed by Amused and other loons here at (un)SP. They'll make a false accusation, something pulled from their ass, a shooter list, and they insist that it's true until until it's proven false. And yet no evidence presented is ever sufficient proof.

Point out that a shooter was too young to vote, couldn't register as anything and, no, he was a registered Democrat until you prove otherwise. Point out that a shooter never lived in a state where party registration is required and, no, he was a registered Democrat! Point out that the shooter was a foreigner and couldn't vote and, no, you haven't proven that he wasn't a registered Democrat!

So this is how it works. KDS and Amused both get off on goats*. Like the shooter list and everything else they pull from their asses, it's an undeniable fact and true until proven false. Heh. Good luck with that, guys.

*I take it that the chicken passed on to what has to be a far better place.

There are plenty of leftist blogs rootie toot. This site and specific thread posed a conservative view of our current president and his handling of the international situation in the Ukraine. And you accuse conservatives of being trolls here?
Your perverted nonsense is apt for one who proudly and publicly posts a video of himself picking his nose and eating it.

The only thing notable about his comment is that he proves he has nothing but spite (and the imputation of spite) to offer.

Conservatives wonder why someone like bongo was elected and why there are so many people doing so many insane things today and rootie gazootie, tensor and others with thier contributions here do us the distinct favor of showing us why.

This is also one of the reasons why I am never amazed at the lunacy of those who come here to deposit their idiotic lies and garbage. Deranged people like this don't realize that they only prove their aimlessness and pathos. They prove they have nothing but silly, inane, empty, bullshit to offer.

KDS: OFF TOPIC BUT TRUE

Clearly gazootie underscores and bolsters KDS's point that "Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns." It is lunatics filled with BLIND STUPID hate, low self esteem and impulse control issues like gazootie that commit violent crimes. Him and others like him desperately need a "tune-up" and somewhere along the line I guarantee someone will provide each with one. Lets hope they live through it and learn from it.

I have no problem with a good discussion exchanging views on many subjects and if a liberal will make legitimate arguments to show me a better way to do things I will always be all ears. However, with rare exceptions, liberal democrats ONLY come to SP to vet hatred of others who don't accept their ideas. Otherwise they would simply NEVER EVER come here.
They demonstrate FOR US through their contributions that they are steeped in blind faith in an empty shiftless ideology that offers easy solutions that are always wrong but also quite humorously absurd.

Life is too short, I don't waste time or energy hating liberals in return. In fact I wish to thank rootie, tensor and others for making your pathology clear for us.
And thanks very kindly for the amusement.

91. And the plot thickens.

Last week as Putin had aces in the hole with two aces showing on the flop and the last two cards were dealt, Obama, with nothing, bluffed and Putin took the pot.

While the AP and other sources reveal that Putin seized all strategic points within the Ukraine and Crimea and detained their officer corps, today having lost everything, stupidly, doubled down. One trick pony (or is that jack-ass).
And like Boy Scout wrote presciently, We should not beat our chests" but mike bullshit's bongo-messiah disagrees.

Today he dispatched 6 F-15's to Poland.

And Bongo revealing his empty hand, simultaneously reveals fears we will lose our escape routes from Afghanistan over the Ukraine, privately fellates Putin, and publicly poses empty threats against him.
And leftists believe this is all a good deal.

This is indeed truly an amusing demonstration of liberal American "strength" and "mastery."
Spose he thinks Putin is scardy about the F-15's and threats?

"I would be concerned about the Girl Scouts that come to your door to sell cookies. Do you splatter their brains all over the place in self defense if they look at you the wrong way?"

Indeed. As Stupe and his crowd already have a deep-seated hatred going for America's cute little Girl Scouts, this could be bad. Hell, she might not even have to look at him wrong before he starts shooting, just show him a box of cookies and a sweet smile.

MOSCOW, March 5 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's central bank said Wednesday it burnt through a record $11.3 billion during interventions earlier this week on currency markets as the ruble plummeted amid fears
Published March 05, 2014 FoxNews.com European Union leaders meeting in Brussels on Thursday could decide on sanctions against Russia if there is no "de-escalation" by then, Reuters reported.
CBS News March 5, 2014, 2:04 PM As soon as tomorrow, the Republican-led House could move forward with a bill that would authorize a loan guarantee to Ukraine. House leaders are also working on a possible bill to issue sanctions against Russia in response to its intervention in Ukraine.
MOSCOW, March 5 (RIA Novosti) - The upper house of Russia's parliament is mulling measures allowing property and assets of European and US companies to be confiscated in the event of sanctions being adopted against Russia over its threatened military intervention in Ukraine.

Question to warrenpeterson and the (un)SP peanut gallery:

Will the Republican-led House of Representatives vote to authorize sanctions on Putin's outlaw regime Thursday?
Or when faced with the responsibility to act in a timely manner in accordance with Obama's policy shall we find out all the talk of action in response to Putin's aggression was just a bluff and the Republicans fold?

Speaker Boehner March 5, 2014 "Mr. Speaker, my colleagues: I know the whole House is paying close attention to the crisis in Ukraine. What is going on there is more than a cause for concern - it is a cause for action. America has a responsibility to stand up for freedom around the globe. And the House will work with the administration to support the Ukrainian people and confront Russian aggression."

We shall see where Republican attention lies and who bluffs and who loses by this time tomorrow.

Of course, rather than "beating his chest" Boehner offered bongo support if he wanted to pull his nappy head out of his ass.
Instead (as you point out) he will pose, lie, and bluff as always and Putin will laugh in his face and do as he likes.
Having painted himself into a corner with his cheap stupid bullshit, bongo is out of tricks.
All he can do now is bluff while trying to look strong.

So, he sent some F-15's to Poland.

112. MBS: Will the Republican-led House of Representatives vote to authorize sanctions on Putin's outlaw regime Thursday?

Let's get something straight, the House is not 'led' by Republicans. The House is currently being run by about 170 democrats and 50-60 big corporation/ big labor Republicans.

The very few Reagan Republicans in the house have been delegated to the status of Evil and branded Tea Party members. Boehner and his friends likely have closer ties to Putin and his cronies than they do to the Tea Party backed GOP members.

The House is currently being run by a few wealthy people who simultaneously have the ears of Boehner and Pelosi and have convinced the both of them to work together for their own desires. And those desires include protecting their personal business interests and making it difficult for competitors.

Obama just needs to sit back and relax, the more power Putin and Russia has, the better chance Obama has of reaching his goal of the advancement of Marxism. He just has to do it in a way not to cast suspicions on himself or his party.

He's an dictator where people allow dictators to rule them. Bongo is just a Chicago punk community organizer elected by the populism of a confused electorate.

Leftist dim-bulbs defend bongo because he is as shamelessly deranged as they are but the American people at large don't see it their way any longer.

As of today bongo has a 38% approval rating with 33% on foreign policy.

This is just the beginning.
As bongo ruins our economy, trashes Americans access to health care, instills racism and division in the populace and blunders into one foreign policy trap after another, he will leave office the worst president in history far behind Jimma Catter and LBJ.

I find that the only "weak, pathetic wheedling lying cowards" are the bleating conservatives that still cannot seem to describe what they would do differently, especially in the course of a single week.

Should we have just nuked Moscow when this started? Put 100,000 troops on the ground and followed the wise examples of Napoleon and Hitler? Nothing in this situation has suggested the kind of immediate and brutal response you suggest. No request from Ukraine for NATO/US troops on the ground, nothing.

Even the notion that Putin kicked ANYONE'S ass is absurd. Even if we were planning a massive, overwhelming, irresponsible response/retaliation, there is no way to do this in such a short period of time. It's been a week.

Conservatives certainly have big mouths, but small brains and smaller... well... you know. And the fact that you cannot even seem to defend your position with even the smallest bit of logical reasoning is... well... depressing.

Over 125 comments have been made here since scottd asked warrenpeterson for detailed thoughts on what, if anything, should be done respecting the situation of Russia and Ukraine, and not one of our self-appointed political geniuses has yet enlightened us poor ignorant liberals on the correct course of action -- although they have, repeatedly, informed us that they know better than do we.

Why, it's almost like it's all talk and no action from this crowd -- a true surprise, considering how the peanut gallery here supported John Boehner for Speaker, and what a boldly decisive leader he has been on this issue.

it's almost like it's all talk and no action from this crowd

Yes, almost.
While the Republican majority in the House of Representatives "could" have authorized a sanction package against Putin (because as I quoted the Republican Speaker of the House up @110 "What is going on there is more than a cause for concern - it is a cause for action. America has a responsibility to stand up for freedom around the globe."), they did not. No doubt they were to busy driving the clown car over at CPAC.

To be fair, there was a vote in the Republican led House on aid to Ukraine today. In the vote on To provide for the costs of loan guarantees for Ukraine the bill passed on a vote of 385-23. Funny thing about that vote.

Each and everyone of the 23 votes against were Republicans.
What's up with the inaction of Republicans in this time to "stand up for freedom"?

Maybe Doug from up @112 can fill us in if those 23 House Republicans were the "very few Reagan Republicans" (you know, the type that warrenpeterson tells us would cause Putin to fold), or if those Republicans were the type to "sit back and relax" for their "goal of the advancement of Marxism".

The way Doug tells it would seem there are 23 relaxing Republicans who are Marxists.

Maybe warenpeterson can come and tell us the winning poker strategy of more than 10% of the House Republicans leaving Ukraine to twist in the wind?

ps tensor, this crowd isn't really capable of answering simple questions, despite being very simple themselves.

For anyone who might come along and observe the end of this thread, I answered scottd's questions at # 23.

I wrote "Publicly, nothing" and that is all that could really be reasonably proposed at this late stage of the game.

And it is precisely what bongo should do but he won't because he is worried about his reputation and keeping damned idiots like scottd and tensor on his side (not that that is particularly difficult). Given the fact that bongo's political adversaries including but not limited to Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin predicted Russia and Putin would likely be our biggest foreign policy problems. Bongo flatly contradicted them, is now proven completely wrong and he now has more egg on his face.

Its too late to do much of anything publicly and the only solutions are quiet diplomacy.
We have no way to know if bongo is doing that except his history which provides no confidence.

We do know he is making a fool of himself publicly and making things worse every day, but that is something one needs some intellectual honesty and objectivity to comprehend and none of you leftist nitwits possess any of that.

The simple fact that tensor keeps reminding us that solutions were not discussed when the opposite is true, proves it.

Not even close. You dodged one of his questions, and ignored all of the others. While that was a very wise course of action for you, telling obvious lies about it now was foolish. Quelle surprise.

If President Obama should "publicly [do] nothing," does that imply non-public diplomatic actions might have better effect? While Speaker Boehner and his Republicans in our House have done a truly masterful job of publicly accomplishing absolutely nothing in this regard, does this mean he should not even have recommended action from our House?

Don't worry -- I won't ask again for you to address scottd's initial questions. Just don't continue lying about having done so.

Vlade Putin won the CPAC straw poll today, outdistancing second place Senator Ron Paul of Kentucky by over 30 points. Before being curb-stomped by disgruntled Ron Paul supporters, Sarah Palin was heard to ecstatically cry out, "Vlade wrestles BEARS!" Right-wing evangelical leaders immediately released a statement declaring Putin to be their "Lion of Christianity" for his treatment of LGBTs.

As Putin spoke before an adoring CPAC crowd he recieved his most enthusiastic cheers when he proclaimed, "I shall rule America with an iron fist!" Afterwards, an attendee identifying himself as "Amused" was quoted as saying, "This is the leader America needs, not some nappy-headed, jive-talking bongo!"

As Democrats raised questions about Putin's eligibility, Orly Tatz held a press conference in which she said, "No problem. I have seen Vlade's long-form birth certificate and I can state as an undenial fact that he was born in Pocatello, Idaho."

America has a responsibility to stand up for freedom around the globe.", but has been unable to get the Republican House to "stand-up" or "act" ever since informed us
"Russia has an energy stranglehold on much of Europe and has been using it to its own advantage," Boehner told reporters Thursday.

Damn Obama! How'd he let that happen. As warrenpeterson says if only Reagan ...

Wait. What?

In the early 1980s there were American efforts, led by the Reagan administration, to convince European countries through which a proposed Soviet gas pipeline was to be built to deny firms responsible for construction the ability to purchase supplies and parts for the pipeline and associated facilities. The pipeline was built despite these protests and the rise of large Russian gas firms such as Gazprom as well as increased Russian fossil fuel production has facilitated a large expansion in the quantity of gas supplied to the European market since the 1990s.

So, Putin has a "stranglehold" on Europe because Reagan failed to lead. :,-(

"Why won't the Republican House "stand up for freedom around the globe" and take action against this aggression?"

Because they know the media would jump all over them for being chicken hwks. We already went through that with Bush/Cheney. Even the House Republicans are smart enough to figure that out.

"Why were the only votes against providing loan guarantees to the invaded Ukraine 23 House Republicans?"

The 23 House Republicans cared about fiscal restraint, while the remainder did not. Compassion ? When is the US going to stop being the watchdog of the world. Never mind that Obama gave billions to Egypt when Morsi and Muslim Brotherhood ruled there.

Keep spreading you malevolence. Go play on horsesass.org with the rest of the Obamunists.
