Mine is a name you're going to see more frequently on Sound Politics going forward, so I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Adam Faber, and last year I served as policy director of Rob McKenna's gubernatorial campaign. I have been active in the King County Republican Party for many years and have worked on and for various campaigns and causes in the past.
I am contributing to Sound Politics because I believe it's important for government's actions and decisions to receive proper scrutiny, and that regular citizens have a role in this. The Olympia press corps has shrunk significantly over the years, so there are a lot less "watchers" examining government performance and questioning its rationales. While that is unfortunate, it is not something we have to just accept. You and I can do something about it.
So you'll see more posts from me going forward, covering whatever topics catch my eye - from state government to health care reform, transportation planning to ballot initiatives. I hope it will be fun, and I hope to add a little sunlight, which we've all been told is the best disinfectant.

1. Welcome Adam. I know I say for most that I love Faber and proud your great grandfather founded such a great college. I'm also proud to be to be a member of Delta Tau Kai.
2. Its good to see a new name here. Only a select view post for comments over here. It can be a hostile environment which simply reflects the extent of political polarization in this area and the country overall. Don't be a stranger !
3. That should have been select few... It has been a long day.
4. Welcome. It's great to see this site get a shot of new blood, Adam. I look forward to your posts.
Welcome, Adam! I hope you can indeed shine some sunlight upon Olympia. I heartily suggest the following target
for your disinfectant, drawn from the Sound Politics recent archives
"The new coalition structure wasn't just untraditional. It was against the rules, which denote majority and minority caucuses--and important privileges that stem from the pecking order, like assigning committee chairs and determining which bills get heard--according to party. So on the first day of the Senate in January, the majority coalition pushed a rule change through the floor that allows for a bipartisan caucus. It was the first Senate rule change of its kind since 1907."
Trashing long-held rules does not exactly imply respect for the rule of law. This sounds like a situation which could use plenty of the disinfectant you prescribe. Please give us your insights!
6. New blood...never bad; welcome. :)
7. Welcome. And with four scandals in the White House and two in WA their cannot be enough disinfectant.
I'm sure that, left or right, we can all celebrate the announcement from the CBO that the projected deficit for 2013 is now only 4% of GDP. Compare that to the budget that Bush and his Great Recession left Obama with in 2009 with the deficit over 10% of GDP.
I'm also sure that we all agree now that there's no longer point to the Republican push for auterity and their use of the debt-ceiling as a hostage. Of course, any further actions of this sort by Republicans should be resoundly condemned by any American with at least two functioning brain cells.
Well done, America! Under the leadership of President Obama we're on the way back!
Have a nice day, wingnuts!
10. Welcome Adam. Just don't be a big skeeze and people will like having you around.

16. Yay Adam! I've known you since our alt-paper days, and you still make me howl with laughter. Just be entertaining here and I'll read you.
@12 "Welcome" @13 "Welcome" @14 "Welcome"
Geez, Griswold, struggle working your own site much?
Heh. Just messing with you. Sh!t happens. Right?
Welcome Adam! It's time we had new blood around here. Please take my above post as a cautionary warning not to let loud lefty's distract you from your point by changing any subject uncomfortable to them. I hope you enjoy your time with us and sincerely hope you enjoy those who post responses (although some of us only rarely now - ahem
When I decided to stop regular commenting at SP I posted and sent an email outlining my position:
I strongly object to the authors of the articles here at SP closing the comments. I believe the REASON you author and post the articles is to stimulate discussion.
Discussion and debate is not, can not be lineal. By their very nature they must progress and expand. Debate and discussion are activities of thinking humans. Humans are individual, thoughtful, messy, rude, and most importantly think differently, argue and debate differently and have different definitions of 'polite' discourse.
I realize that we often let the comments expand in a way you the authors don't like. Some of us use sarcasm, others use insults, others are 'take no prisoners'. But we who participate clearly don't mind, because we keep coming back!
Please let the threads die natural deaths. You can certainly hasten that by posting new and/or more interesting topics. Or, you can focus the discussion that go too far awry by contributing a comment that redirects those of us too far off topic.
We do not deserve to be slapped and sent for a time out like a misbehaving children....
You may not have noticed and you may want to consider it, but there are far fewer folks participating at SP then there were in it's heydey of the early Gregoire days. I participate in this because I CHOOSE to, because I enjoy it. I think it's safe to assume those that still participate have the same reasons. But far to many of the former regulars, particularly the conservative regulars, are gone. After 13 years, I am close to being one of them. I liken a blog to inviting people over to a party. I liken the arbitrary authoritarian control that's reared its ugly head to inviting people to your party then telling them to stand in the corner, shut up and don't touch anything. It's not fun and guests won't come again.
I hope you consider my points in the management of your columns.
More importantly, I hope you enjoy the back and forth of thoughtful voters. I look forward to reading your columns.
19. Faber, look into that Reardon guy. There's something going on there...
Doctor - Please relieve me of the pain of having to read your posts.
Your irrelevant points border on gross malpractice - what matters is debt to GDP
, a percentage that does not bode well for our economic survival. Sure, the deficit is almost down to Bush's worst, mostly through tax increases and the sunset of the stupid SS tax holiday
. Big whoop. With Obamacare ready to explode, nothing but deficits in sight.
There are treatments for BDS; try prescribing for yourself.
And learn some HTML
21. I agree with Ragnar. Sound Politics used to be much more fun and informative, even a bit rowdy at times, but always interesting. Lately the posts have been averaging one or two a week, and too often comments not allowed. I can't help but suspect readership has gone way down and therefore advertising, so I wonder how much longer this once-stellar site will be around.
22. @18 Your email was spot on, Rags. Well done.
23. By the way, Rags, I haven't heard an update lately but I'm hoping that your husband is doing well and is back on his feet. Best wishes for you on that.
"what matters is debt to GDP, a percentage"
Wow, you must have been birthing goats watching the last president and his Republican congress spending your precious money like drunken sailors. And yet you still vote for Republicans after all the lies they've told you and all of the money of yours that they blew. How'd you feel when they lost that $8,000,000,000 on a pallet in Iraq? That had to really suck for you, huh? How many Solyndras could you have bought with that? I bet you were all over the internet spewing hate at Republicans at the time. Right? Oh, you didn't? You say you spent those years calling Democrats traitors? OK. Whatever.
Hmm, I take you're not very bright, are you? Sorry, but even the proper application of voltage will never fix that one. But if you want, I'll gladly crank the dial to 11 when you come in for treatment again.
See ya at the clinic, Putz.
Hello, Adam. I comment here from time to time. I am a proponent of abortion on demand, ending the War on Drugs, the wars overseas and shrinking the American empire. I also want term limits, a flat-rate, simple tax system, loser-pay tort reform to hurt the trial lawyers out there, and having the US simply minding its own business, for a change.
Oh, I also think the Plan B pull out to be an over-the-counter medication, available regardless of age.
Why does Steve try to kiss up to Rags ? It is nauseating as it is insincere and a hypocritical because it can be shown repeatedly that he has shown no respect for Rags' viewpoints.
We're just asking that he walk his talk and subdue his potty mouth in the comments and be thoughtful and believable in disagreement- that's a mighty steep hill to climb. I'll believe it when I see it.
Yes, @20 - you are spot on. The proof in the comments of @24.
Disagreeing with a viewpoint does not immediately mean disrespect. As I expect (hope) liberals would say of one conservative who calls them 'loud lefty's', just because we disagree with liberals on politics doesn't mean they are not kind in other aspects of their lives.
I appreciate both the kind words and the fervent wordy discourse. Further, we all know that posting comments is strictly one dimensional. There are no facial cues or tone of voice clues to guide how we read them. Mostly, I read them as I post them: with sarcasm and hilarity ... unless I'm already having a bad day by the time I get to them. THEN I take offense at everything.
Hells bells, if I took offense every time my husband said something that enraged me, we wouldn't be on the cusp of our 34th anniversary! And no doubt he would have dumped me a long time ago for being an argumentative, infuriating Italian with lots of opinions... of course maybe he just likes my cooking...
SMILE KDS! Even in serious times, with serious issues and very serious disagreement about how to solve them, we can still laugh at ourselves...and each other... especially loud lefty's!! ... Especially these last 10 days! :))
@27 - Total disrespect also means believing one is crazed, bigoted and hatred of the moment (gleaned from previous comments). I would have a problem if someone preached concern, then turned around but deep down had no use for that person. That smacks of hypocrisy at least...
That's your's to decide.
Yes, the chickens are coming home to roost - from Obama's 1st term - impeachment would be an exercise in futility and another stupid political move by the GOP, IMO even if Congress makeup looks more favorable for it after 2014.
My note was for Rags. It was ONLY for Rags.
I couldn't quote the comment she wrote back when this happened a few months back but Rags clearly understands that sometimes there are things that are one hell of a lot more important than the games we play here. Her husband had had a heart attack and she was frightened. That came through loud and clear. I don't know about you people, but that's when I'm going to stop what I'm doing and show some compassion.
If I came here scared over something that befell my Dear Ms. Wingnut I would expect that worthless piece of sh!t KDS to respond by calling me a lying, Jihad lovin'-commie-fascist-Nazi. His response would be to try to hurt me even more. I believe Rags would immediately stop the game and try to show me the same compassion I've tried to share with her. I followed up with her today because I DO care and I would love to hear that her husband is doing well.
You can go to f*cking hell, KDS. And if you need any help getting there just let me know, assh*le, because I'd be thrilled to punch your ticket and I'm just the man to do it.
By the way, Rags, I disagree with just about everything you have to say about politics and I certainly give you grief but that doesn't mean I don't like you. Perhaps you've noticed that I don't treat you as I did before you shared what was happening with your husband. You showed us your humanity and with that I started to like you. That we disagree on politics is not enough reason anymore to me treat you so poorly as I once did. I doubt that I'll go there again.
There's a reason why the trolls over at HA and I are friends even though we beat each other up all the time. I'm sure it bothers a few "loud lefties" to see these friendships develop but that's their problem, not mine. Those friendships were made possible by displays of the same compassion that we're talking about now, Rags.
I do hope your husband is doing well.
My husband is awesome!
Commenting on a thread is like moving into a new neighborhood: you don't know who your neighbors might be, you hope you'll like each other and maybe you will, but if you don't, or if you don't agree, well, it's still in everyone's interest to be neighborly. Sometimes, you just suck it up, take them cookies at Christmas, help with kids, house watching, loose dogs and mail. You're in it together whether you would have chosen to be or not. Looking down on my political signs shouldn't prevent politeness at the mailbox.
"be thoughtful and believable in disagreement"
What a laugh. As though you've ever done that. Oh, wait, that must be when you're calling everybody to the left of Genghis Kahn a Jihad-lovin'-commie-fascist-f*cking Nazi. Putz. If you're trying to impress Adam I'm sure he'll see through your BS with no help required. He may be a bore so far but it's already obvious he's not a damned stupid idiot like you.
33. @31 You're on a roll, Rags. Keep it up.
34. Hey, now I'm looking forward to some Christmas cookies!
"My husband is awesome!"
That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm glad for you, Rags.
36. Sometimes, you just suck it up, take them cookies at Christmas, help with kids, house watching, loose dogs and mail. You're in it together whether you would have chosen to be or not. Looking down on my political signs shouldn't prevent politeness at the mailbox.
*Except for the jerk butt morons behind me with the yappy dog who put their damned shed right smack in the middle of our lake view. I hope a hawk has the yappy dog for brunch and termites and/or snakes, spiders and rats infest their shed.
37. @36 Funny. I kind of feel the same about the developer who was going to build a house next door that violated our HOA covenants as well as 9 of 12 of our construction guidelines. It was going to be allowed because a majority on the BOD believe that all development is good and any hinderance to it is bad, residents harmed by their lack of enforcement be damned. I made it clear that I would sue the heck out of the HOA and I would damn well win. I let them know that it would be my distinct pleasure to watch as each Board member who voted yes took their turn at the witness stand to explain to the Judge why they refused to enforce the covenants and construction guidelines over the objections of the residents being harmed by their actions.
39. Excellent! From one former prolific Sound Politics writer to one I hope will be prolific: good luck to you, sir!
Wow, dimebag @5... looks like that MCC really pisses you leftists off.
Tough. Get over it.
That's very funny, Dimwit. I talk about how you lost $8,000,000,000 in Iraq and you think I'm the one should seek help. Damn. I just might have found someone on this site who's even more stupid than KDS. To tell the truth, I really didn't believe that was possible. Well done!
In other words, when I call out the Republicans you vote for as incompetent fools who lost $8,000,000,000 your money, you have no defense whatsoever. Eh, but I already knew that. Nothing new there for me. So the best thing for you to do is tell me to seek help and hope that it all goes away. Sorry, but that not going to ever happen.
Sure, your losing $8,000,000,000 in cold, hard, palletized sucks for America but I'm actually more bothered that the last president you voted for sat on his ass while thousands of Americans died in the twin towers. Too bad he didn't take the warning of the clear and present danger posed by Al Queda seriously. But you don't like to talk about that stuff, do you? Too bad. Because for others it's simply the dismal Republican record of abject failure and a damned good reason to work hard to see to it that Republicans never hold a national office again.
Have a good day!
For KDS - who I know
will appreciate how utterly definitive it is and will (I hope) pass it on:
It is simply amazing that sheep will follow the a$$ hole in front of them for I'm sure that is all they can see is the a$$ hole of the sheep directly in front of them.
I hope the sleepels & sheepels wake up and stop following the a$$holes.
Select quote revealing a disturbed passive aggressive with little intelligence who is under the delusion he is a doctor:
Sorry, but even the proper application of voltage will never fix that one. But if you want, I'll gladly crank the dial to 11 when you come in for treatment again.
See ya at the clinic, Putz.
Mentally deranged A-holes like Steve are responsible for driving many away from SP.
@29 - As long as you post something here, it is for everyone's consumption - dude and I or anyone else is free to say whatever they want about it. If you don't like that, tough shit !
45. good article thnks you very much
"See ya at the clinic, Putz."
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and I'm certainly flattered.
What you just told me is that one cut you and now you're bleeding. Thanks for the reveal. Shall I move in for the kill now or show you mercy? Hmm, if I hurt you too badly you might never come back and the fun of toying with you is over. I'll give it some thought. Next.
"Mentally deranged A-holes like Steve"
The projection never ends. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're a mentally deranged A-hole. Got it. Now try telling me something I didn't already know.
This reminds me of the question I've been pondering. Who is more stupid, Leftover or KDS? I tend to lean towards KDS. It's how completely oblivious he is to just how stupid he is and how he just keeps running off at the mouth saying the dumbest things imaginable. Then that stupe Leftover will drop in and I have to ask the question all over again. Who is more stupid, Leftover or KDS?
Damn, this thing's really neck to neck at this point.
And as they approach the finish it's KDS by a nose!!
47. @46 - Eat excrement and die ! (only you Steve - queen of the libtards).
48. Welcome, Adam! I look forward to reading your posts and appreciate your efforts to spread some sunshine.
49. Welcome, Adam! I look forward to reading your posts and appreciate your efforts to spread some sunshine.
Hmm, more projection. I'm sure you're a nice guy and all that but if you're the closeted gay I've have long suspected and you're now desiring me, I have to tell you that I'm very much straight and that I'm already taken by my Dear Ms. Wingnut. Sorry about that. I hope that didn't hurt you.
Another retarded ad-hominem attack from the newly proclaimed (by SP) village idiot (@50).
Keep up the posting, Adam.
Gawd, he's hitting on me again.
I've figured out why you're such a hate-filled little prick. You never been laid before. My bad. I should have figured that out sooner. Too funny.
53. Stop projecting yourself, fecalhead ! you are the village idiot - wear it proud.
54. @52 - You are slow-witted libtard, that's why you are called the village idiot. BTW, you have zero self control.
55. Heh. Loser.
56. I've given it some thought and I've decided to help Adam turn this blog around. Anybody not heading in that same direction will be ignored from now on.

Pot meet kettle & takes one to know and be one. You have been a very small person. All eyes will be on your posts from now on, just like they are on the IRS...heheheh
