What Makes America Great

Sometime in each president's term, at least more recent ones, the sitting President hosts the former President and First lady at a ceremony to unveil their official portraits. Love President George W. Bush or hate him, love President Barack H. Obama or hate him, maybe neither emotion applies, but watch today's ceremony. It symbolizes what makes America great.

1. there is nothing classy nor patriotic nor great nor responsible nor team building nor even ADULT let alone smart about Mr. Sotero.....he has used every occassion to deride Catholics,Christians, patriots, republicans, the Polish, white people, and even Medal of Honor winners (by not attending the Medal of Honor inauguration ball which had been a tradition for decades)...George Bush is so much more the man than barry will ever be...sure, Bush doesn't have that clever way of not answering questions by using the big words and having a reader board infront of him, but he is the ONLY president who ever earned Masters at two different Ivy league schools and I'll bet we could see All of his records if we wanted, unlike barry who has made it a presidential proclaimation to hide any part of his past....

2. Like Warren Peterson, I'm fond of these democratic ceremonies. They separate us, I think, from the nations which choose their leaders in other ways.

The British have one which I wish we could copy, their simple announcements of election winners. You can see a recent example, here.

3. It is a nice tradition.

Bush has mastered the art of self deprecation. Obama may have stopped the bong hits from his Choom Gang years, but he still has a way to go before his age catches up to his ego.

4. I was just shocked that they were able to fit this ceremony in between the Obama's seemingly endless vacation schedule.

5. He may seem cordial to Bush-43 on the outside, but inside he is thinking up more ways to blame the economic malaise on him.

One mediocre and one abysmal president seeming presidential to each other TODAY but tomorrow's another day and he'll be back to blaming the Republicans (i.e. Bush) that brought this economic mess upon us. Back to being "Choom bama" the community organizer again.

6. "We knew our economy was in trouble, our fellow Americans were in pain, but we wouldn't know until later just how breathtaking the financial crisis had been.

Obama is so insecure and tacky that he actually said this at the ceremony. Speechless, really, at the utter tackiness of this president.

7. Michele,

I sincerely doubt the long-term effects of the '08 crash would have been so "breathtaking" had there been patriotic American adults (rather than traitorous Marxist schoolboys) manning the wheels of our government and economy the past 3.5 years.

8. Bush actually stole the show with his statement when he thanked the Prez and the FLOTUS for their hospitality gathered there for his "hanging".

A classy way to rebuff Obama's insecure tackiness (hat tip: @7)

9. Who knew that our own president was a magician? First, he earned the Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing. I guess pot smoking, public nudity and anti-American sentiment is all you need these days to earn an award given to such honorable people as Mother Theresa. Job numbers are down, unemployment is up, there is no plan for the next 4 years, we have no federal budget, our foreign policy is schizophrenic and the dollars is in the crapper. And despite all of this Obama's approval rating still is above 40%. Now that's the real magic! How could he do nothing right and still have any approval rating at all?

Maybe I can figure it out. What I learned about doing a real good illusion is a concept called misdirection. By definition misdirection is a form of deception in which the attention of an audience is focused on one thing in order to distract its attention from another. Well, I think that might just be the key. During the beginning of his tenure as president he misdirected all his failures towards President Bush, blaming him for the tanking economy and continued recession. More recently it looks like he used that same misdirection trick to disguise his abysmal tenure as president by blaming Greece, Europe's financial instability and the Republican's inability to pass any his bills. However, when he had control of both houses the only thing he was able to pass was an unconstitutional bill that would bankrupt the country.

It also seems the media has picked up on this trick. Take for instance the Catholic Church. Instead of properly reporting Obama's hatred towards the church and the justified laws suits he is facing from them, the media instead cover the airways with stories of priest's sexual misconducts. I understand Obama hates the Catholic Church but does that mean the news media has to also?

However, he's attempting to use his last bit of misdirection to get himself re-elected. Because he certainly can't run his campaign based upon his horrific record, he instead turned people's attention to Governor Romney. Using the media as if it were a government run propaganda machine, he has done everything to discredit and vilify his opponent and wife. The problem with this strategy is that Governor Romney actually has really strong credentials. He is an excellent businessman, governor, statesman and father. He was not a drug abuser, school skipper or deadbeat. Thus, Obama has turned to lies and other untruths in order to continue his misperception.

Well Mr. Obama, I've watched the FOX series Magic Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed and know what you're doing. It's just a matter of time the whole country comes to their senses and realize what a disaster the last few years have been with you in the White House.
