The Seattle Times reports:
Bowing to pressure from some gays outraged by Israel's treatment of the Palestinians, the city of Seattle commission that represents gays canceled a Friday reception at City Hall for a visiting delegation of Israeli gay leaders. To begin with, it's not entirely obvious why there needs to be an official "city of Seattle commission that [purportedly] represents gays" in the first place. Gays in Seattle are already at least as well represented politically as any of the many, many other interest groups who aren't also given a publicly funded lobbying group. Note that Seattle's openly gay political elite includes (at least) 2 city councilmembers, 2 state legislators, a county councilmember and the US Attorney.
But as long as Seattle's taxpayers are funding the LGBT Commission, the commissioners are responsible to all of Seattle's residents to represent the city well. That entails being courteous to foreign visitors and not discriminating against other people on the basis of national origin.
I don't know whether the Jew-boycotting LGBT commissioners are themselves anti-Semites or whether they're simply feckless clods who found it easier to give in to deranged Jew-haters than to defend others from bigotry.
Anybody who is more interested in promoting equal rights for gay people than in delegitimizing the Jewish state would acknowledge that Israel grants more legal protections to its gay citizens than do most other countries, and certainly more than any other country in the Middle East. But that would be an inconvenient truth for those who are peddling the fiction that Israel is an "apartheid state", because it also reminds us that Israel's Arab citizens also enjoy more freedom and human rights than do Arabs in any of Israel's neighbors.
In any event, Seattle's LGBT commissioners are an embarrassment to our city and they should all resign. The commissioners' names are:
NaaSira Adeeba, Dane Boog, Lillie Cridland, Eleazar Juarez-Diaz, David W. Howenstine, Aric Lane, Mac Scotty McGregor, Ryan McMurray, Tiffany Nelson, Caila Nickerson, Jarred Lathrop-WeberThey deserve as much contempt, opprobrium and rotten fruit as one might toss at those who congratulate themselves for boycotting Jews.
And if the hopefully soon-to-be-former Seattle LGBT commissioners want to extend this teachable moment to really learn something about human rights in the Middle East, may they visit both Gaza City and Tel Aviv and try to organize Gay Pride Parades in both cities. I'll be happy to post their progress reports.

there are almost as many Jews in the U.S. as in Israel.
many Jews around the world object to Israel's policies toward the indigenous Palestinians.
check out the blog Mondoweiss mondoweiss.net. check out Jewish Voice for Peace. http://jewishvoiceforpeace.org/
human rights are something everyone should stand for. thanks to LGBT commission for doing so.
Posted by: Linda J on March 19, 2012 10:10 AMDid you miss the "I don't know" part, or are you actually that stupid? You listed what is referred to as a quote fragment and that is a key part of dishonest journalism. You are now in the same league as any general dishonest Leftie.
Posted by: TTTCOTTH on March 19, 2012 10:16 AMIn much the say way that for liberal Jews, being a liberal is their actual religion, not Judaism...being a liberal and voting mindlessly for Democrats is more important for gay "activists" than having actual principles. The orthodoxy is ruthlessly enforced, and crackdowns on dissenters are swift and vicious. Try expressing a conservative thought among a crowd of gay folks and find out for yourself. Oh, and I get to say this and get away with it because I'm GAY...and a conservative.
Oh, and a little housekeeping for Linda J: there's no such thing as a "Palestinian." Unless you're speaking of the original inhabitants of the piece of real estate we call Israel. We call them JEWS.
Posted by: Bastiat Fan on March 19, 2012 12:08 PMWhat would you expect from such an immoral, self-absorbed clique but to have them denounce a race/religion that not only has a 4,000 year-old claim to specific Middle Eastern territory, but welcomes all law-abiding, peace-loving people to their country, which happens to be only democratically-governed nation in the region?
The only answer I have is that evildoers seek and congregate with their own.
Posted by: Saltherring on March 19, 2012 01:22 PMYes, this is anti-Semitism pure and simple. No country has a perfect human rights record. Israel's record on human rights for all of its ethnic, religious, sexual and political minorities is vastly better than any other country in its region. So when "activists" focus solely on Israel and carry their "activism" about Israel to the point of boycotts, delegitimization and shutting down free speech, all the while ignoring horrific human rights violations in every other country in the region, then yes it's anti-Semitism. It's another tactic in the Arab ethnic cleansing campaign to eradicate Israel. Some folks commit murder with the aim of eradicating Israel, you and your friends are working to justify that genocide by treating Israeli people as untouchables who deserve only to be shunned, boycotted and dehumanized.
You protest that you're not an anti-Semite, so maybe you're just an ignorant and deluded tool. Either way, if you think that boycotting visitors on the grounds that they're Jewish Israelis is a commendable act of "human rights" then you are a bundle of perverse and repulsive beliefs.
Posted by: Stefan Sharkansky on March 19, 2012 04:29 PMIsrael is not our fifty-first state: Israel is responsible for taking care of Israel, not us.
Posted by: Politically Incorrect on March 19, 2012 08:52 PMI take it you're not a religous person? G-d has made it abundantly clear where He stands on the issue of Israel. I don't think you want to be on the wrong side of this issue.
Posted by: Bastiat Fan on March 19, 2012 09:15 PMI follow a different religious path, Bastiat Fan. The Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) are not for me.
We've done enough for Israel. They can take care of themselves. Whether the Muslims win or the Jews win is of no concern to me.

Posted by: Hinton on March 19, 2012 10:16 PMNow the Lord said to Abram,
Get out of your country,
From your kindred,
And from your father's house,
To a land I will show you.
I will make you a great nation,
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
And curse him who curses you;
And in you all the familes of the earth shall be blessed.
Genesis 12:1-3
Be careful what you embrace and who you you renounce. There can be only one truth...with all the rest being lies.
The truth will set you free, while a lie will most certainly condemn you to the fate of unrepentant homosexuals...that being eternal hell.
Sadly it was her and not her hard-left parents or nutcase Evergreen State University indoctrinators who paid the price.
Posted by: Saltherring on March 20, 2012 06:50 AMALL religions are valid and ALL religions are packs of lies. Religion was invented by us to explain the un-explainable. They are all slightly different paths to the same place. Islam is no better or worse than Christianity or Judaism. All the Abrahamic religions are no better than ay of the rest of the world's religions.
Posted by: Politically Incorrect on March 20, 2012 06:35 PMYou are wrong. But on the bright side, you do still have time to get it right. I'll be praying that you do, for the sake of your immortal soul. Eternity is a really long time.
