Q13's Brien Blakely Thinks That Republicans Will Gain At Least Two House Seats From Washington State's Redistricting

This morning I heard him say, during the six o'clock news hour, that Republicans would go from their "current two" to four or five seats.  This surprised me so much that I listened to the seven o'clock news to see if he would repeat the mistake.

He did.

What makes this mistake especially strange is that Q13's own in-depth story gets the numbers right; Republicans currently control four of the nine Washington seats.  The state is gaining a seat, and so all the district lines are being redrawn.   Republicans have a chance to pick a seat in the redrawn 1st district, which is, not coincidentally, the only district without an incumbent running for re-election.

Blakely is new to this area, and is substituting as a host, so you might want to cut him some slack.  But, you really have to wonder why no one else at the station caught the mistake, and told him about it after he first made it.

Q13 should correct this mistake — and should put up the correction on their web page.

1. And he just repeated the mistake one more time.

Now I guess I have to watch the first part of their nine o-clock news show.

2. Jim.

I just posted some comments by you over at The-AVE. We AGREE!! (http://handbill.us/?p=12659) The new 1st is a GIFT to the Republicans unless you folks are too damn busy sipping the tea to see the opportunity.

As for the new ninth, I side with pudge. This is as racist as anything that goes on in South Carolina! What damn fool thinks you can make kosher sup out of collard greens, ham hocks and matzoh balls? (http://handbill.us/?p=12650)

3. "This is as racist as anything that goes on in South Carolina!"
Why does the left have to make everything about race? Can't the left simply argue an issue on its merits?

4. This might well be called the 'Incumbent Protection Act of 2011'. It removes pretty much all electoral threat from Larsen, Reichert and Herrera, while turning the 1st into a GOP leaning district. The newly minted tenth is going to be safe Democrat.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the delegation split 5-5 after 2012, though 6-4 Democrat is quite possible as well. Hopefully Koster can pull it off, though.

5. This is a totally pro-democrat redistricting. We lose any chance of ever getting the 9th district for example (at least until they redistrict again).

And please Koster don't run again. We need new blood. Someone with a reform mindset.

8. Blakely is probably wrong. Just because of the way they gerrymandered the 10th District. Slade Gorton was supposed to be involved as part of the so-called team. He is one hell of a negotiator after seeing the proposed redistricting plan - ugh ! Can you say progressive Rethuglican ?
