How to close the state budget deficit? (II)
Suggestion #2: Eliminate all non-essential travel
Mrs. Gregoire granted herself an exemption from the out-of-state travel freeze last week to fly herself and a senior policy advisor to Davis, CA for the upcoming "Third Annual Governors Global Climate Summit" held concurrently with the "Annual Leaders Forum of the Pacific Coast Collaborative".
The consequences if Mrs. Gregoire chooses not to fly down for the "summit"?
Washington State could still sign on to the actions agreed to and announce at the California event, though with reduced influence on the terms of the final agreement. By not attending the conference in person, the opportunity to affirm our state's global leadership would be missed.
Modest proposal: telephone in and affirm the state's global leadership in reducing unnecessary spending and jet fuel consumption.

1. Yes to all that. This was not that important of a trip, for sure. When people are asked what are the most important issues for pols to focus on, AGW never comes up.
2. The Chicago Carbon Exchange (CCX) just folded. Essentially nobody cares (the CCX price of CO2 per ton has been flat-lined for about a year).
So our current Gov is itching to spend our taxpayer dollars to provide ''global leadership'' on something that just became political road-kill after (R)s took the U.S. House (unless of course (D)s give the voters of this Country the finger by passing some version of ''cap & tax'' during a lame-duck session (but I kind of doubt that will happen: Too many (D)s who barely survived know that 2012 will be here before they know it) ).
Governor Rob McKenna can't come soon enough. . .
3. Mrs. Gregoire is an embarrassment as Governor to any thinking person of this State. After all, AGW as been laid to rest as a Scam sometime ago and she and other idiots are still having a meeting/conference at taxpayers expense? What a criminal Face!
4. Correction: Last sentence...What a criminal Farce!
5. btw, just heard a report that inmates in Spokane may lose vital mental health meds due to cuts in state budget. Their meds program costs $250,000. I daresay that Mrs. Gregoire's trip could have been easily cancelled and the money put toward meds for these inmates/patients. Seriously.
6. I didn't know she had returned from Germany Yet speaking of the travel freeze!
7. Seems like they could tele-conference on this.
8. What ever happened to the EFF lawsuit against her?! Just curious?
9. Democrats love to go to conferences with other Democrats so they can all feel so important together.
10. In the next session the legislature needs to finish killing Western Climate Initiative. Repeal of the law and prohibit any further expenditures for the program and all other related items. Then about 3200 DOE employees can be be terminated for an annual saving of $400 million or so.
rious money.
11. Daniel @ 4,

15. She is an embarrassment to this state. Such arrogance that is typical for her.
