Pelosi/Reid Congress refuses to do its job

This Congress spends a lot of time fooling with nonsense, while refusing to perform its most essential functions.

Thursday Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi passed a law controlling the volume of TV commercials. A big victory for those who don't have the will to hit the volume button.

At the same time they refused to do one of the few things it really has to do - pass the budget. Friday was the first day of the new fiscal year. They have had nine months to pass the budget - 9 months. They didn't do it.

Reid and Pelosi's Democrat Party has complete control of both the House and Senate. Why didn't they pass the budget? They have cobbled an excuse, but no reason.

Sen. Patty Murray is a Senate power broker. Why didn't she make sure this basic task was performed? Being so powerful she could have, but she didn't.

Investors Business Daily

... In the 14th-century poem "Parlement of Foules," Chaucer dreams of a comic parliamentary debate of birds. In 21st century America, our birdbrain legislature is a nightmare come true.

Why would a Congress so firmly in the hands of one party and one ideology have to enact a continuing resolution to forestall a government shutdown, instead of passing a budget as required under law? When it has no worries about the president vetoing such a spending plan (he isn't running for re-election this year), why can't it get its act together?

Because congressional Democrats are in a state of panic. They know an electoral catastrophe is looming, and inaction is easier to defend than action -- especially actions such as spending trillions and letting the biggest tax increase in history take effect.

What a mess... They just couldn't allow the public to see how they would vote. We would have seen how badly they are overspending.

Be sure to ask Reps. Jay Inslee, Rick Larsen, Adam Smith and Norm Dicks why they came home without doing what they were sent to DC to do.

Oh... another thing. They just didn't have time to deal with Rep. Charles Rangel, who had to step down as Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, the investigation into his ethics violations. He has four (4) rent-controlled apartments in New York City (rent control is supposed to help people with limited incomes, not powerful Congressmen); he had his staff work on his personal charity; he didn't report income from a Caribbean resort property. The House has the report from the Ethics committee, but Nancy Pelosi refused to hold hearings.

1. Like I said, Democrats want all the power but none of the responsibility.

3. Maybe Pelosi and Reid were too busy cavorting with their communist friends over at the "Socialist Worker's Paradise" leftwing rally in DC yesterday to pass a budget.
To see their many communist friends and activities at the rally, go here:

4. I've been of a mind to think that they are doing exactly what they were elected to do...or rather, what it is they THINK they should be doing. Which is having the main focus on keeping the golden goose alive, which requires staying in office.

Anyone see the ST's puff piece on Murray? Concentrating on representing the little guy. And I really am willing to believe that her mind is that simple and biased to believe it to be true, at least by her parochial viewpoint. Kinda like General Bullmoose.

5. A socialist will tell you anything and everything is in the name of some nebulous goodwill. Always another promise if we just submit to another tax and a little more control.

Of course the goodwill never comes. And so they are forced to hide as much of their shameful ineffectiveness as possible. Which is why Congress won't pass a budget.

But you know their Ponzi scheme is collapsing because they are starting to throw unions under the bus now just to get enough traction to keep their sorry asses in office.

9. "Reid and Pelosi's Democrat Party has complete control of both the House and Senate. Why didn't they pass the budget?"

Surely it has nothing to do with the Unprecedented Rate of Republicans Using the Filibuster and everything to do with China's secret plot to take over the US. You do know that Pelosi became Speaker in 2007?

I have not yet figured out how ACORN is involved, but if you let Glenn Beck know, I'm sure he'll come up with something.

Also too, it is completely unreasonable for gubernment to set the volume of commercials. Commercials should be able to blare at an infinite volume compared to TV shows. This ridiculous interference on the part of teh guberment will limit the economic activity of those companies who make software to do this for you. People should have to PAY for the service of commercial volume control.

ps. why didn't the Republic minority filibuster this bill? Are they part of the secret China plot to takeover the US?

11. All Fiscal Bills originate in the House of Representatives.

From 1995-2006 the House of Representives were in control of REPUBLICANS.

Yet the size and scope of government only grew.

And now, without even apologizing for the last time, the Republicans say "trust us".

And I would if I saw any, any change in the party from 2008. But no, it's the same old party. Until I see internal reform in the Republican party I am going to have to veto them.

A good way to start would be getting rid of Michael Steele.

13. Mikeboyscout @9, are you claiming that Republicans filibustered the Democrats valiant efforts to pass the budget? 'Cuz it almost seems like you're just trying to infer it even though it's a load of horse @#$#..

In fact a much more plausible explanation seems to be that they didn't want to have a vote on a budget before the election.. why? Because then they might have to extend tax breaks for EVERYONE (you know, those Bush tax cuts "for the rich" that somehow cut taxes for every taxpayer across the board) or risk voting against it in an election year .

This was election-year politics pure and simple.

14. lol, mikebs, when the democrats are trying to institute their "Socialist Workers Paradise" onto the american people(who, in case you haven't noticed, don't want it), there has to be SOMEONE to stop the madness. Thank goodness the repulicans are there to speak for the american people and stand in the way of Obama completely going over the cliff! Btw, were you at the "Worker's World" communist rally on Saturday in DC?

15. Vote--ALL--Incumbents out or pay the price on issues that always cost the--TAXPAYER.

Personally--As a Tea Party member and a moderate Conservative I'm angry and frustrated in being taxed in the conveyor belt for illegal alien welfare. I have a son who has Asbergers disorder and I get very little help from the state and federal government, yet I still must contribute to in-state tuition for the children of illegal aliens. I still have to have some of my tax money going towards dialysis or serious medical treatment for foreigners who pay--NOT A PENNY, while my step daughter cannot even get any dentistry in the once great state of California, because she is over 21 years of age. All I know is if we mass deported every illegal aliens, every state, county and city agency would not be overrun by the impoverished of other countries. I have but one vote and Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) and Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN), who have obnoxious illegal immigration records.

I just wish they were incumbents so we can dump them on the wayside and not have to pay there outrageous salaries, and long vacations at the end of each Senate session, along with all their special privileges and benefits. I am sick that our legislators are continually pandering to foreign nationals, who shouldn't even be in this country. That politicians who allow millions of business that hire illegal aliens, paying absolutely not a nickel--to the health care and schooling for illegal children. The majority leadership and their peons are currently overlooking the 15 million unemployed Americans, as they try to change public opinion on giving 12 to 20 million illegal aliens legitimacy. Right now the LiberalCrats have failed to mention of Pew Research Center intelligence, that somewhere around 8.5 illegal workers are advantageously employed. Another Amnesty to process the 12 million (government count?) more around 18 million and up, illegal aliens could cost 1 trillion dollars. With that sort of money you could purchase Latin America?

That instituting another Amnesty will give millions of illegal aliens free reign to your Social Security and will only make mass exodus from other countries worse; bringing millions more to our shores and borders. Central in enacting any form of Amnesty is Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) whose own state in is serious economic trouble, from illegal alien welfare benefits and instant citizen of babies birthed by an illegal Mother.

Senator Reid & Barbara Boxer have a unacceptable immigration record as he has said--YES--to Federal funding for Sanctuary Cities, Comprehensive Immigration Reform; Dream Act (a De Facto Amnesty); another Guest Worker program; (previous Guest Worker programs resulted in Amnesty); allowing illegal aliens to participate in our struggling Social Security. Voted--NO-- on just English for government agencies All these very negative actions have cost US Taxpayers billions of dollars, which is taken from their paychecks. Reid voted--NO--to making E-Verify mandatory as a business requirement; or limiting welfare to illegal aliens that is another massive cost, estimated to be just the federal level of $113 billion dollars yearly. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) voted faithfully the same to Senator Reid. Then the majority speaker Democrat Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) says that arresting and detaining--ALL--illegal immigrants was Un-American, an administering to the same party line issues as all Liberal-Democrat members. His voting records and other Democrats is costing taxpayers billions, including the $ 60.Billion in remittance money leaving this nation, to other countries.

The quantity of money spent to educate illegal alien children; the colleges that pander to illegal students, emergency health care treatment (much cannot be classified as an emergency) prison incarceration and then wide scope of state, county and city public entitlements. The dollar amount cannot be even estimated, as the US government as even local authorities keep these figures shadowed and out of the public view. Occasionally figures are released by public minded officials; otherwise there remains no accounting to this fiscal problem? Both parties over two decades are to blame for ignoring this obligation to the taxpayer. Both Nevada and California--must enact laws, to stop the free distribution of welfare benefits to nationals that injured the economies of these states; Proposition 187 was the people's vote in California to do exactly that, but was secretly derailed so it couldn't reach the Supreme Court.

Sen. Robert Menendez's (D-N.J.) introduction of amnesty legislation, with the Dream Act and Ag bill attached to it suddenly appeared last week. These are all travesties of our immigration laws with some surreptitious agenda. Something to keep in mind that there is hardly any security, when it comes to--ONLY--citizens voting. Democrats specifically don't make it clear that--ONLY--US CITIZENS can vote in November or in any election. GOOGLE--voter fraud and then be ready to watch for suspicious activities, as illegals knowingly or otherwise unintentional will use either absentee ballots or the polling places. We must remember to vote for any incumbent democrat, means billions of dollars out of your wage packet, to keep illegal aliens in America. Nobody who entered the US illegally, from whatever corner of the world they come from--should be rewarded.

The 1986 Immigration law has never been strictly enforced, not by Democrats or Republicans, who have failed to protect the economy and safeguard this country. This illegal immigration is just a paramount problem in border states anymore, but has spread like a pestilence to every community in America; just not large cities today. Politicians have never built the double fence or even completed it; never made illegal entrance a felony. America should only seek highly skilled workers, not the desperate and poor who always need monetary assistance. It is time to begin the purge of all politicians, Governors, Mayors and elected officials in both parties who are determined to go against the public grain of illegal immigrant removal--which means--ALL--not just criminals. November you are for or against that will save this country from further financial deterioration, but also watch for illegal aliens voting. GOOGLE--keywords such as illegal alien costs, or investigate your senator or congressman's record on the illegal alien enforcement.

Remember this Washington switchboard number of 202-224-3121 and confront both party members of their stance, then vote them out of office? Get more informed at NumbersUSA & Judicial Watch. In conclusion--this smear on Meg Whitman in my book, has been instigated by Union goons, as a favor to Jerry Brown; with policy payback to come? Interesting thought? If E-verify had been in operation permanently in every business in the USA nine years ago, this maid called Nicci would have been detected and she would have been fired. Sen. Harry Reid must accept full blame for that, as he is responsible for weakening E-verify to a voluntary program.

16. MikeBS,

Don't you have to at least bring a bill to the floor for a vote before you filibuster? And that means the House must first pass a bill (where the GOP cannot filibuster).

The lack of a budget is 100% the fault of the Democrats; there is NO WAY the GOP can stop it before it comes for a vote in the Senate. Inaction at this point is simply because, as Ron states, the Democrats are afraid of trying to pass an even larger deficit-generating budget. After all, $1.64 trillion last year was bad enough (more than all Bush deficits combined).
