In 2005, Veteran (And Methodist Minister) Donald Sensing Wrote A Tribute For Veterans Day
It was worth reading then, and it is still
worth reading.

1. Aaah Jim, figure you for coming thru on V/Day with an appropriate posting. You da man. Thanks. :)
2. I was down in Sumner last Thurs nite at the Sumner High School. My grandson's school (4th grade, et al) put on (as they annually do) a tribute to veterans. The theater was packed and the program was one to rip your heart out. Patriotic songs were performed by the kids, they had their own MC's and they put on a slide show honoring all of the veterans in the audience (pictures had previously been submitted). I was US Army but all the services were honored. Let me tell you there wasn't a dry eye in the house...each veteran was asked to stand when their services' song was played and students gave a single rose to each of us.
I looked at my wife and said I wonder why the farther you get from Seattle proper the more Americana seems to persist.
3. Duff - You're welcome, of course. But you should really thank Reverend Sensing, who did all the work.
4. A tip~o~the~hat to the servicemen who go in harms way and, in doing so, make it possible for us to sit comfortably in our homes and ponder the possibilities.
Thank you for your service!
5. In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
6. Liked your poem John members of my immediate anextended family were and are vets.
7. Ever notice how the liberal trolls never show up to honor our veterans? Coincidence?
8. @2-7: Classy! Thanks for spoiling a perfectly nice thread.
(Why, exactly, would I pay tribute to veterans on a right-wing conservative board?)
9. (Sorry, @2 AND @7. Everyone else was just fine. Ditto, in fact.)
10. "(Why, exactly, would I pay tribute to veterans on a right-wing conservative board?)"
You wouldn't pay tribute to veterans if your life depended on it troll kid. You loath our military members.
Why do you even show up here at all? No one invited you. Why don't you go over to the socialist HA where the children play.
11. "Let me tell you there wasn't a dry eye in the house"
Were you crying harder than when you lost all that milk? Tear-jerker Duffman.
And thankyou for your so-called service.
12. I still ask myself "where do we find such men".Bless the troops and thankyou for my freedom.
