Open Election Thread

Use this thread to make (or repeat) arguments for or against any local candidate or measure.

Please be civil.  In particular, avoid name calling.

And, just for fun, I'm planning to republish two or three of the best comments tomorrow in a separate post.  A comment is more likely to be judged "best" if it makes a logical argument, uses civil language, and supports the argument with facts, especially facts linked to reliable sources.   Or, if the coment is really funny.

1. Support Steve Skipper and Bill Pirkle for Federal Way School Board. We need a school board that will lead the district and represent the parents and people of our town. We don't need a school board that supports the union and administration lines.

2. I support Dow Constantine for King uh er King County Executive. The way he puts his foot down the throats of rural landowners and skims the budget for useless water taxis for yuppies over potential flood control for the masses really excites me. His slavish adherence to left wing talking points is extrodinary. I can be confident that with the elections department under Dow, we will always come up with the "correct" people for elected office.

3.
I am totally opposed to Darcy Burner in D8. She has ZERO experience in government, and no such person should be elected to high office on her first go around... oh, wait - she already lost! YIPEE!

I totally support Sue Hutchinson for King County Exec. Experience really isn't an issue when running for high office. There's no reason we should support a total neophyte in her run for the leadership of our county, with its thousands of employees and billions of dollars in spending.

5. It's pretty ridiculous for Rob Holland to complain about David Doud "disclosing" Holland's home address.

The address on the unemployment warrant is 9614 57th Ave S, Seattle WA 98118.

When Holland himself registered with the Public Disclosure Commission by filing his PDC C-1 Form on December 29, 2008, that's the address he filed under -- 9614 57th Ave S, Seattle WA 98118.

If Holland is concerned about his safety at that address, would he have disclosed it himself on a PDC filing?

That same address is available through the voter registration database (right here on Sound Politics) and other sources.

David Doud's campaign didn't disclose anything that wasn't already public information -- made public by Holland himself.

6. Mark Griswold appears to have an incorrect notion about the scope and impacts from King County Amendment No 4 that he endorsed.

He limits the scope to the number of council members that must approve sales of high priority lands owned by the County. The Resolution goes further by establishing how priority lands are designated without a great deal of formality, while limiting sales only after citizen review and approval and a super majority of council members of 80%. This plays into the hands of those wanting to limit public land sales in the county.

The Charter Amendment exacerbates the problem that arises from the County already owning too much land for which it cannot afford to pay for the burdens and costs of ownership.

This amendment should be defeated.

7. Vote Anne Farmer for Des Moines City Council Pos. 1 - Besides being pro-business, pro-property rights, anti-big government and pro-police, she's pretty good looking.

Made you look.

8. Commit to convince the number of people to REJECT 71 proportional to:
Number of pages in the voter's pamphlet - 33
Number of trees killed to publish R-71 content in said pamphlet - hundreds
Number of pages in legislative text that should be stopped with a REJECT vote - 158
Number of paragraphs - 4059
Number of lines - 7325
Number of words - 37669

REJECT such bloated, nanny-state, lawyer-enriching legislative intrusion into our lives (dontcha wish we could file a referendum federally for Cap 'n Trade and socialized medicine?).

9. Yeah dude, vote against everything that contains a lot of big words and text. I HATE reading. It's all Queen Chris' fault making me read, trying to get me to learn. VOTE NO R71. The gays are trying to make me read.

Posted by: Tyler on October 20, 2009 02:50 PM
10. Paddy, you make a fair point. I probably should have just not endorsed either way on that one since my support of Amendment 4 is lukewarm at best.
In the end though, I don't think it'll make a difference either way. What we need to do is get rid of the CAO.

11. No Tyler liberals lawyers deliberately construct legislation so no one other than attorneys can comprehend their language. How is that for representative government? Is R71 designed to ultimately lead to gay marriage which will be forced on us by our liberal judges? Of course it is.

As an aside but relevant why do liberals shout, "have you read the healthcare bill"? They know darned well anyone sitting at their dining table hasn't a chance of understanding the more than 100 pages of purposefully unclear language. How many bills have these people proposed? They are deliberatly messing with us in order to get single payer passed.

No one can possibly understand any of these bills. The leftists that write them know this. Obama tried to ram through healthcare legislation before anyone could read it, much less have some understanding of the ultimate consequences.

I was going to support R71. I don't have a beef with gay rights as long as it doesn't include re-defining marriage.

Now I am so sick of these annoying people. I'm voting to reject it.

Surely any gay person must know lawyers who can draw up papers that guarantee their rights to a domestic partnership.

Anyone who has ever cared for an aging parent knows you need power of attorney and paperwork that allows you do make healthcare decisions. There isn't a reason in the world why gays can't do the same thing. They don't need a sneaky 30 page initiative which is nothing more than game playing.

In the name of anything reasonable R71 has more than 30 pages of dizzying verbiage in the Voters Pamphlet that only an attorney could love.

No voter will wade through all those pages and the liberals who wrote R71 know it.

It's appalling. Liberals who constantly whine about diminishing forests and endangered salmon, (which is a liberal myth), have not a bit of problem sending more than 30 pages of tree killing blather to every single registered voter in the state.

I'll honor the spirit of this post and not say what I really think of these people.

Always remember what kinds of people populate the modern left. Looking at their legislative games really is futile. Understanding who they fundamentally are as people and what their goals are is far more instructive.

12. Susan Hutchinson is the better pick for King County Executive. By along shot by my measurement. Dow can talk about "experience" and all the cost savings he's implemented but it sure hasn't shown up anywhere I can see. The facts as they are exhibited are pretty simple: After 13 years on the KC Council, Dow is part of the problem. This position needs somebody with fresh ideas and not beholden to the special interests and that seems like Hutchinson.

Posted by: G Jiggy on October 20, 2009 04:35 PM
13. Susan Hutchison is the only hope that King County has of ge/tting out of being the sewer of corruption and will also improve the financial standing of King County, which is sad at the moment. Voting for Chairman Dow will bring more of the same and King County will remain corrupt and will remain in financial chaos. Vote Hutchison for County Executive !

Posted by: KDS on October 20, 2009 08:16 PM
14. Susan Hutchison is the clear choice for KC Executive, as she will have concern for all of King County. Her opponent is too concerned about narrow special interests to be a good leader, whereas Hutchison is interested in serving all citizens and doing what's best for the county---not what's best for the special interests.

Had enough of King County corruption and disinterested incompetence? Vote Susan Hutchison.

15. VOTE FOR JUDGE DAVID HULBERT, FOR SNOHOMISH COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT. THE ONLY Conservative in the race, who will NOT legislate from the bench.

Posted by: BLAIR on October 20, 2009 10:38 PM
16. King County Executive:
I oppose Dow because his only solution to budget issues is to try and better manage the existing responsibilities of the King County Budget. He makes no serious cuts like eliminating an agency or department of the County government. Instead we get administrative savings measures and temporary cuts to certain departments. This will not fix anything but at best get us through a short period of time.

I am opposed to Susan Hutchison for the same reason.

I will only vote for a candidate that wants to reduce the role of government in our lives. I urge all others to do the same thing. Only by withholding your vote from ALL candidates and ALL parties who fail to support a truly limited government will we ever begin to see politicians begin cutting the role of government.

17. bill,

i take it, after your response above:

'No one can possibly understand any of these bills. The leftists that write them know this. Obama tried to ram through healthcare legislation before anyone could read it, much less have some understanding of the ultimate consequences. '

that you said the exact same thing about the republicans and the patriot act? the iraq war resolution?

or are you just a hypocrite?

also, obama hasn't tried to 'ram through' any healthcare legislation. sooo, please stop lying and stick to the topic at hand (teh gays destroying marriage worse than closeted repubs, divorce and spousal abuse ever could)

18. michele,

if hutchison is against voter approved legislation, how is she for 'all of king county'?

20. Mike at #17 says, "also, obama hasn't tried to 'ram through' any healthcare legislation. sooo, please stop lying and stick to the topic at hand"

Excuse me if I cannot stop laughing.

21. Isn't it fun to observe the way leftists behave?

Don't think "mike" isn't the same poster as "John Jensen"?

The same cadence to his writing. The inevitable "please stop lying" that "Jensen" uses over and over.

Could I be wrong? Sure.

Afterwhile nearly every reader here can see through these people.

They certainly have to wonder what it is that makes leftists act the way they do.

It must be a joy to wake up as hacked off as leftists are every day. These are people who evidently have no idea how blessed they are.

Instead they spend the gift of life trying to control how other people live. It's sick. It is what leftists have always done throughout history.

Did anyone watch Dow Constantine attack Susan Hutchison tonight over abortion? As if that has any bearing whatsoever on being King County Executive. Was he pandering to Seattle liberals? He ought to be ashamed of himself. The man is simply another Democrat lawyer. How many Democrat politicians have ever had a job other than as an attorney? Danged few. I'm trying to be nice here so I will not say what I really think of this man. Certainly he is an individual who has spent his entire life drinking from the public trough. Nearly every Democrat has the same history. Like Obama, his wife, and Hillary, and Biden, and Gregoire, and must I go on?

It's amazing. Republicans have actually had real careers, they are doctors, or business people. People that have had to make a payroll. Democrats are nearly always people that have nursed at the public teat their entire lives.

I just for once want some honest leftist to explain the nightmare of social security, medicare, and how LBJ's welfare has done more damage to African Americans than "Jim Crow" ever did. Look up the murder statistics and maybe you'll get a clue.

I don't think it is a big mystery. The left simply attracts these not exactly pleasant folks. Van Jones? Marc Lamont Hill? Do I need to again list the leftist leaders that have killed millions? Oh and then there are the millions of unborn innocent children leftists kill and think it is nothing more than "birth control".

They show us nearly every day who they really are. I can't think of a single reason to be nice to them. Can you, dear readers? It's time to take the gloves off.

Two points:

1. Susan Hutchinson is not my first, second, or third choice for county executive. She's merely my choice ahead of Dow Constintine.

2. She may not have any experience in Government, but she does have experience in a lot of other things. Darcy Burner didn't even have that. Her ENTIRE RESUME was I graduated from Harvard in my late 20's, I worked for Microsoft for a few years, I quit to go to law school, I quit law school to run for Congress.

Nobody, certainly not me, requires service in Government to serve in Congress. However, we want experience doing SOMETHING. Darcy had experience...talking to lefty blogs from what I can gather.

24. 'Democrats are nearly always people that have nursed at the public teat '

wow, you are a complete moron. none of the dems i know are nursing at the teat. in fact, i know more republicans nursing off welfare, medicare, social security, etc.

and are you really as moronic to think that obama's attempted to 'ram through' any legislation? pretty obtuse. laugh all you want, but you should really take the blinders off, bill.

reality smacks a lot harder than your fists of (ridiculous) fury.
