Dear Mr. Ross:
A week ago, I asked proponents of Obama's health insurance plan to tell us why they supported the plan, offering them space for a free op-ed at Sound Politics. I emailed my own congressman, Jay Inslee, with the offer, but have not received a reply.
(Of course, I would be delighted if Inslee did send me a reply, or if Congressman McDermott, Senator Murray, or Senator Cantwell accepted my offer.)
It occurred to me that you might have more time than Inslee, and that you might be able to fill in for him. (If the news reports are correct — and they sometimes are — Congressman Inslee is busy avoiding direct contact with the voters in the 1st district.)
Supporters of the Obama plan often say that they want a "conversation" on the subject. All right, here's your chance to contribute to one. If you have a good argument to be made in favor of Obama's plan, email it to me, and I will publish it on the most important political blog in this area. (You can find the details of my offer in the original post.)
Best,
Jim Miller
PS - I hesitate to advise a talk show host on how to run his program, but this offer might be a good topic for your show. You might ask your listeners, who are mostly on the left, what arguments they would make in favor of Obama's plan to a skeptical, and very numbers-oriented, conservative.
PPS - I listen to your show from time to time, and often enjoy it. I especially appreciate your efforts to keep discussions civil.
