WA Senators Both to Attend Stealth Event

As reported by NW Digest, Senators Cantwell and Murray, along with Rep. Baird, are having a public get-together at the Cowlitz Expo Center on Thursday.

The weird thing is that they are trying to get union people to show up to counter-protest the healthcare protestors, but this event wasn't known about until today. It seems to me they are trying to set it up as a stealth meeting so that most people there will be pro-healthcare, just so they can say that our state's in favor of it.

If you can go, sign up, wear green, and have fun!

1. What could we expect from the king of Astroturf himself, Barack Obama? After all, he was a "community organizer" which is code for 'lead astroturfer'. Now his "Organizing for America" group is doing this. Hope lots of patriots show up instead.

2. michele, way to slander the tens of thousands of people trying to make a difference in their community.

by patriots, you mean the intimidators stifling public speech? the minority minions shouting down opponents with lies, espousing racist and bigoted remarks along the way? truly the kind of patriots benedict arnold would be proud of.

And you wonder why people don't take you seriously?

6. Mike-
I don't seem to remember seeing any Youtube video where the "Patriots" and Teaparty people physically assaulted anyone.

I can think of three I've seen recently where a protester has been slapped, kicked or had their camera shoved back into their faces.

(I won't even bring up the guy in St Louis that got beat up to a point that he's in a wheelchair now since that's NOT on video that I know of.)

You guys keep trying to make these people out to be thugs and hooligans. We all see the photos and videos and they look just like my poor departed grandparents.

Pardon me if I giggle just a bit about how frightened our congresspeople are of these folks.

By intimidators do you mean the SEIU goons who beat a man and a woman at a St Louis town hall? By racist and bigoted remarks do you mean TV commentators who refer to protestors as "teabaggers"?, maybe you refer to Nancy Pelosi who thinks protestors are Nazis?
Little Mikey I leave you the following quote to chew on
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration."-- Hillary Clinton 2003

9. Does anyone realistically expect more of Cantwell and Murray? I mean, I hope theoretically that my Senators would actually listen to all sides, but realistically I know they'll go and sit at Harry Reid's knee and ask "what is thy bidding, my master"...

I do expect more from Baird... Apparently he's becoming too much of an acolyte of San-Fran Nan. I wonder if he realizes that he represents "flyover country" to most of his fellow Slavers...

10. You Neo-Cons may as well get ready for it: the Democrats are going to pass that health care bill, and you guys are going to lose more support in the country.

Serves you right for letting GWB get us involved in two foreign adventures without an exit strategy.

I don't believe anyone here is neoconservative. I could be wrong, but certainly, they are a tiny minority. Either you do not understand the word, or you do not understand your audience. Which is it?

... the Democrats are going to pass that health care bill, and you guys are going to lose more support in the country.

Shrug. If we lose support by standing up for our principles, I will be just fine with that ... unless, of course, it happens because the Democrats lied and people bought it (like when Gregoire got re-elected on a dishonest platform of "me no deficit!" and "Rossi no stem cells!").

You, like many on the left, don't get it: we fight for what we believe is right, regardless of the consequences.

Of course, what you get even LESS is that the people are (or will be) on our side on this one. Some Republican operatives -- not grassroots people, but professionals -- actually want to allow health care reform to pass, as this will hasten a return to Republican control. And no, it's not mere wishful thinking.

However, even if I did believe in such tactics -- and I do not -- I think the people would be loathe to elect a Republican Party that wasn't out fighting against this bill.

Serves you right for letting GWB get us involved in two foreign adventures without an exit strategy.

Um. You haven't been following along, have you? Obama's Iraq exit strategy is no different than Bush's was. And it's the same one he had since the start of the war. Remove troops as Iraq can take over with its own forces. That is the strategy now, and it has been the strategy since 2003.

Try to keep up.

13. The "Weak Sisters" leaving the cozy confines of DCA to come and chat with little ole us? I'm taken aback. If you thought Bagdad Jim couldn't change his tune wait till you hear his backup singers "The Weak Sisters" You have Sen. Murrary, a sub woofer for the NEA who votes the party line a whopping 97.4%. Sen. Cantwell, not a WA. native. Got bored with her Sun Microsystems millions and thought she try politics. Maria votes 94.4% party line. So if you are looking for open minded representives that want to hear what you have say you better look somewhere else. Because hamsters have more independent thought than these frauds. They have their marching orders, and this is just for show and tell. But you can let them have an ear full anyway. Bring your mouth guard.

15. Maria got her money from Sun Micro? I thought she had done her big win withe Real Networks.

(I used to do some work with Real Networks and boy, what people had to say about her there was pretty harsh.)

Isn't it funny that people like Maria - who made quick money on an internet bubble stock from a company selling a second rate media player - can stand in judgement of bankers and insurers that actually fuel commerce and contribute to the economy?

16. mike, "Organizing for America" is what Obama's campaign group morphed into. Obama's very political existence since early on was based on his favorite book by Saul Alinsky "Rules for Radicals", which someone here linked to the other day. It is all about being a "community organizer" which is ALL ABOUT astroturf and whipping people who previously didn't care into a frenzy. Obama lived it; you can at least let him own it.

Posted by: Michele on August 12, 2009 12:29 PM
17. mike, you might also want to explain why there are multitudinous ads showing up on craigslist in several different states attempting to actually hire people to come to rallies for Obama's attempt at "reforming" health care? Nobody has to pay the patriots to show up.

Btw, we wonder if you think Michael Moore is lying, re the item Jeff B. linked to the other day?

Posted by: Michele on August 12, 2009 12:34 PM
18. ...and this one's really interesting: one of the emails spotlighted in the link Pudge posted says the demonstrations are "orchestrated by big business and the big insurance companies".

Really? Name one.

If the Obamites are going to lie, then we can at least expose their lies. Like right here.

Posted by: Michele on August 12, 2009 12:48 PM
19. 15. I could be incorrect on Sun Microsys. I didn't see a pay-stub. I do know that if the GOP ran anyone other than old Slade Gordon for 30th time. Cantwell would not be an issue. She ran around here saying she was pro business, touting her business backround. Once she got in the senate she voted for every green anti business anti growth bill she could put a pen to. They are both so in the club and so far removed from us its heart breaking.

20. Just got off the phone with the Baird office, tomorrow's meeting at Cowlitz Expo Center was cancelled.
Rep. Baird will have his first town hall August 18th at Skyview High School at 7pm.
This is a bit of a surprise since the congressman thought he'd through the name Timothy McVeigh into the mix. You brown shirt, building bombing....

23. So I wonder if they are going to have the meeting anyway and just allow their union friends in? If they cancel it, then I guess they must have their minds made up already. These people need to realize that big business is not organizing this. It is indeed people that are ticked off and for good reason. If any of our reps had read the bill, and they had a brain, they should be scared of this bill too.

24. Cantwell and Murray following the party line and doing what Harry Ried orders them to do is OK with me. I really don't want either one of these two actually thinking for themselves.

Posted by: Huey on August 12, 2009 05:37 PM
25. Huey, I would agree with you except that this entire bill is so large and shakes so much of the foundation of our economy and puts it in the hands of people with no business experience, no common sense, and a distaste for the American systems. Funny though that they hate our health care system so bad but all of the politicians have the best health care in the world, and it too is part of the US health care system.

I fail to see how we can trust anyone of these morons to run anything. Medicaid is broke, Medicare is broke, SSI is going broke, the post office is closing a ton of outlets, Amtrak loses over a bllion a year. Why would anyone trust these people with anything at all?

Posted by: Laurie on August 12, 2009 06:37 PM
27. #25: ..why would anyone trust these people with any new big program spending? You're absolutely right...we shouldn't. These people are credit-card mentality spendaholics who are giving us a $1 trillion+ deficit for just this year (on top of what already exists in the national debt) and they want a new $1 trillion+ spending program? They'd ruin it in a day. Look at Medicare...it's going broke. And if as you pointed out the Post Office and Amtrak are how they run their nationalized mail-carrier and trains, then heaven help us once they get ahold of everyone's health care. It will be a MESS.

Norm Dicks, we're still waiting! We want to chat with you!

30. The progressive Democrats in Congress are really shooting themselves in the foot and in other places besides being liars and arrogant a-holes. They have lost control and are flipping whoever doesn't agree with them off, when they work for us. Their rude awakening will come in November 2010 and not a moment too soon.

not that I liked Gorton, but he was tons better than little miss cantwell

as far as wars, well, if Clinton had done his duty as president and NOT treated the first Trade Center attacks as a "crime" instead of the horrible terrorist act it was, where would we be...

one of the few things Bush did right was to attack the Taliban and eliminate one dangerous dictator from this world....

and if you remember, most all the Rats were on board....

35. From this mornings WSJ

Congress's Junkets Look Bad in These Austere Times
It is particularly galling, considering our country's economic distress, to read the Journal's excellent expos´┐Ż of Rep. Brian Baird and company's trip to the South Pacific and beyond ("Lawmakers' Global-Warming Trip Hit Tourist Hot Spots," page one, Aug. 8), especially when one considers that federal support of necessary state social programs has been slashed.

That the congressmen and their spouses found it necessary to "see" the effects of global warming on the Great Barrier Reef through a scuba-diving mask is more than outrageous. The justification of the trip as "a valuable chance . . . to monitor how federal funds are spent" is insulting not only to their constituents, but to all U.S. citizens.

This idiot has been a poster child for abuse of this sort by elected officials. Not only is this guy a one man scandal and disgrace his actions in this regard reflect poorly on his constituents.

What this tells us is they are going to do what they want to do NO MATTER WHAT WE SAY! The only solution is to throw them out of office. They are clearly not listening to us. They are doing everything possible to make it appear there is support for this socialism. We need to make it IMPOSSIBLE for them to pull off this fraud.
