McKenna's Plans for the Future

I, and I'm sure everyone else on his mailing list, received the below e-mail from Rob McKenna. Should Patty Murray be concerned? She has faithfully towed the Democrat Party line since entering the U.S. Senate over 16 years ago. It has earned her leadership positions and pork power for Washington State. But will this be enough to win a fourth term in 2010? Will her obsequious support for everything Obama - stimulus spending, cap & trade, government health care, economic policy etc. - haunt her should Obama fail to gain public approval for his lurch to the Left? McKenna, up for reelection in 2012, has a free ride should Patty prove vulnerable in 2010. Even if he challenged her and lost, he'd be the leading candidate for Governor in 2012. Should he win, Washington State would have one of the smartest members of the what has been called the most exclusive club in the world, the U.S. Senate. That would be the "Change We Need."

Dear Friend,

I am writing today to thank you again for your continued support and confidence. Thanks to you, the past year has proven to be very successful both in the Attorney General's office and in my political life. Last year, running on my record of reducing the scourge of methamphetamines in our communities and protecting vulnerable populations from identity theft,

· I was re-elected by a margin of nearly 20%.

· I was proud to receive the largest number of votes of any Republican candidate for any office in Washington State
history.

· I won 58% of the vote in Pierce County - my opponent's home county.

· I won 54% of the vote in King County.

· I won 61% of the vote in Snohomish County.

· I received a larger percentage of the vote statewide than President Barack Obama and came within 60,000 votes
of his total vote count, even though turnout for the presidential race was considerably higher.

Since returning to the Attorney General's Office, I have spent considerable time visiting cities and towns across the state in order to stay connected with the needs of individuals, families and their communities. In the next year I will,

. Return to every county at least once.

· Meet with grassroots leaders to help them achieve their goals, particularly in legislative candidate recruitment and
support.

· Expand my social networking capabilities to improve that efficiency and quality of my communication with all of our
state's citizens.

· Share our vision for Washington State with current and new supporters.

In order to achieve these goals, I ask for your help once again. Please log onto www.robmckenna.org and make a contribution today. Alternatively, you may send your contribution to PO Box 955, Mercer Island, WA 98040-0955.
Thank you again for your continued support. I look forward to seeing you soon in your hometown! In the meantime, stay in touch by logging onto my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/robmckennadotorg . Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Rob McKenna

1. But will this be enough to win a third term in 2010?

Warren, Murray has already won three terms...

2. I think the question is whether Rob should seek the position of governor or senator. He has legislative experience, and he has executive experience. At this point, where are his negatives? Is it premature to think two steps ahead? The man has the intelligence, personality, and savvy to be President some day.
The position of governor might be best for his resume if he were to consider a future bid for the presidency. But he would also be well-positioned for a US Senate bid.

3. Who would want this state's top job after Gregoire? It's going to be such a fiscal mess by the time she's done. Not that the federal government will be much better, but at least McKenna would not be blamed for the train wreck that is going to happen here.

4. To me it appears that most Washingtonians have no economic sense whatsoever. They think money grows on trees and that electricity comes from some magical place. I fully expect this state to reelect Murray and march off in to the abyss of bankruptcy, just like California.

5. Jeff B, You are correct, elected in 1992, reelected in 1998 and 2004 she will be seeking her fourth term in 2010. I'll correct the post.

6. @4: They think money grows on trees and that electricity comes from some magical place. I fully expect this state to reelect Murray and march off in to the abyss of bankruptcy, just like California.

The state will only face a California-style apocalypse if I-1033 passes...

7. The state will face a California-style apocalypse irrespective of whether I-1033 passes or not...unless or until it starts electing a government that knows how to live within its means...

8. Well, since Patty Murray faithfully (if ignorantly) toes every leftist line in existence expect full support from every media organ in the state along with demonization of any challenger to the right of Obama. And the thoughtless in King County will re-elect her again.

Sad, really.

9. I think McKenna should read the tea leaves until 2010 to decide what to do. as a Republican he has to tread very carefully as far running for the Senate or Governor. I mean look at my Rep Reichert, he voted for cap N trade just to ensure his re-election in a swing-district.

10. ah I can see that demo kid says that if only we were to follow the path of uber-socialism will that save the state from financial ruin...

BTW, over at Horse's Ass it's the usual paeans to light-rail. Otherwise it's pretty light posting by Goldy, I think he's tired.

11. BTW, any polling on I-1033? I remember signing for it a few months back with glee.

12. My sister lives in California. If Patty does not run, or is not re-elected, then my sister will have bragging rights because Barbara Boxer will be the dumbest memeber of the Senate.

um, you mean like how the bush admin wrecked the economy, but the wingnuts think it's obama's fault? hilarious.

Posted by: mike on July 20, 2009 08:35 PM
14. I think you mean how Democrats wrecked the economy, a la Barney Fag and Chris Dodd.

As the Al-Queda Far Left Moonbats like to drivel, all of this is happening on Obama's watch.

Back to Patty Murray, she's the most retarded politician I have ever seen, and that includes Joe Biden.

Posted by: Mark on July 20, 2009 09:20 PM
15. It's pretty hard to beat Joe Biden in the goofball politician department. Still can't believe democrats thought he was a good choice for this job. The only thing I can come up with as to why Obama chose Biden is that no matter how many gaffes Obama makes, he will always seem smart compared to Biden.

16. a la Barney Fag

nice one mark (wes?) - bigot much.

and you are the one writing frou frou french cliche's like "a la"

mark foley - gay hypocrite
larry craig - gay/bi hypocrite
ted haggard - very gay, meth lovin hypocrite
bruce barclay - gay hypocrite
bob allen - gay hypocrite
richard curtis - very gay hypocrite
david vitter - diaper wearing hypocrite
neal miller - mule loving hypocrite
jim west - very gay hypocrite
paul crouch - very gay hypocrite
ed schrock - very gay hypocrite

17. bigot much.(?)

Apparently not nearly as much as you...

Posted by: Alphabet Soup on July 21, 2009 07:22 AM
18. Mike,

Don't know of most of the "hypocrites" you list but I do know the difference between how most Democrats and Republicans deal with them. Most Democrats embrace and pass legislation that panders to sodomite perverts while most Republicans choose to distance themselves from them. Larry Craig is shunned by Republicans for disgracing himself, his constituents and his party, whereas Barney Frank is celebrated by Democrats, even though he disgraced himself by allowing his butt-buddy to run a sodomite house of prostitution out of Frank's basement. Frank also played a major role in the housing market crash, blocking Republican attempts to initiate more oversight to out-of-control Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I believe another of Frank's bend-overs was a senior executive for either Fannie Mae of Freddie Mac while Frank was chair of the House Banking Committee. Can you say conflict-of-interest? Apparently Democrats and their lap-dog media can't....unless it's a Republican.

19. Mike, take a look at who was in charge when Barney had his "scandal" the R's were in charge, and they pushed to I believe Censure him or something like that. The party can only do so much or I am sure Craig would have been gone long ago. It is the power of the Speaker and the ethics committee, Frank went through the whole process, more than some have done, I am not defending the guys at all, I think his actions were the lowest of low, but he was dealt with and then he was reelected by his district time after time.

20. I think his actions were the lowest of low, but he was dealt with and then he was reelected by his district time after time.

What do you expect from those Far Left morons in Taxachusetts? They re-elect that murderer and rapist Ted Kennedy time after time.

Why Barney Fag hasn't been lynched for collapsing the US economy shows how tolerant Americans truly are.

Barney Fag should be kept away from the economy and 5-year old boys.

Posted by: Dave on July 21, 2009 09:15 AM
21. First let me say I think Barney Frank is detestable in several ways, including his involvement in a gay prostitution ring. That being said, can we all try to focus on the issues. Calling Barney Frank Barney "Fag" doesn't help our cause. Part of the reason we Republicans keep going down in flames is that the left brands us with the Christian-Right Bigot label. Now I'm just as Christian-Right (and leftists may even say bigot) as the next guy and while I think the liberal media is treating us like the witches of Salem, lets not give them any vindication for their claims. The fact is, even though we do chastise and oust hypocritical members of our party like Mark Foley, Larry Craig and Richard Curtis and the Democrats seem to embrace them, every time we do have someone like them in our midst it makes our stock go down and does make us look hypocritical. And so does calling people fag (or continuing to question Barack Obama's birth certificate). We can win on the issues people. Very few people in this country like corporate bailouts or government run anything so let's bring those things up, not someone's sexual orientation. That's a matter for God to decide.

22. I agree with Mark Griswold.

The open use of epithets is unnecessary and largely points back to the writer.
Everyone already recognizes how despicable Barney Frank is.
We can win handily on the facts when they are presented clearly, accurately, and without rancor.
Gratuitously soiling the discourse is for liberals.
Leave it for them.

23. getting back to the topic....if McKenna does run in 2010 at worse he would build his campaign team and network and donor list to be well positioned for the gubernatorial run. And if he does not run, someone else will, and that person could develop a statewide identity and base and be in a position to fight McKenna in the gubernatorial primary. Right now he's the GOP star statewide, why let someone else into that circle?

24. Huey @ 12, two words.. Al Franken. Already displaced Murray at the bottom of the pond.

25. I sent a message to Senator Murray yesterday and got a form letter back. When I replied to the form letter I received a mail failure response. Our representation does not seem to want our input.

26. At #25,

Senator Murray doesn't read.
Did your note have pictures?

27. Where would McKenna do the most good - Governor or Senate ?
He'd be a good senator. Patty Murray will be tough to beat though, unless the Dems are having a downer year with the economy- one thing to consider. He is a good AG and think he would be helped by serving the 2nd full term.

The state's fiscal house needs to get in order, plus states rights need to be strengthened against the troublesome expanding Federal Government that will not go away any time soon. His path to Governor would be easier and also more significant to this state.

28. Oh, no, I am sure the Democrats are shaking in their boots.

He will do just as well as that guy the Republicans put up against Cantwell. Remember Mike McGavick. I didn't. I honestly had to look the name up. I just remembered him as the guy who's only qualification was that he was "electable" which of course in the end wasn't really true was it.

I guess we are going to spend the next year here talking about the "electability" of Rob McKenna (and not his stands on issues). That is, of course until he loses.

In the end, McKenna like like McGavick before him will show that this "electablity factor" that we are supposed to ignore all else in reverence to simply is a myth.

On other issues. Check out this article about Micheal Steele and tell me if this is the party you want to belong to? In their attempts to "broaden the base" Republicans are just going to further alienate and erode their base while still not obtaining the group they are reaching out to.

29. I think it would be cool to be known as the state with the first Transgendered US Senator (McKenna was born with both Male and Female organs).

30. "At this point, where are his negatives?"

Pro-Illegal Alien.
