Vern Little Runs for Council District 5 Seat
Vern Little, Mayor of Lake Stevens, is running as a Republican for the Snohomish County Council, District 5, the seat currently held by Dave Somers. Steve Dana announced he was also running earlier in the year.

1. Vern Little is the perfect man for the job. He understands this district, and that his job will be to represent the constituents of the 5th district first and foremost. Something Somers forgot long ago (can you say UW branch campus, filing for a job with the EPA while in office etc etc)
2. Not to mention the fact that it will be nice to have someone who has an insiders perspective of the countys major employer-Boeing, sitting in this council seat. The Mayor has been with them for over 30 years, and currently is a Senior Manager. That's the type of leadership we need up on the 8th floor.
3. Methinks Sno Co is but (no pun intended) a small pimple on the great wide ass of Washington. Pretty much of a non-event in the minds of most herein. [smile]
4. The PU used to cover these issues. What is your point Fan?
I think the SP should be reaching out and remarketing itself. Gone are the days of the election scandals with staffers providing insider information that helped expose the Democrats corruption.
I like what Josh Feit is doing on Publicola with regards the King County races. I also believe if the PU had been doing the same thing on these "small pimples" they would still be in business.
So, on this one, get lost and choose a better battle.
But, who is Vern Little? Sounds like a new guy without chops being thrust into a big limelight. Kind of like McGavick who was not ready for primetime. Or is Little the Real Deal even though he has only been a mayor of a small town for a short time. At least Dana has been around.
5. I think it's good that SP is covering the local races; I don't want to have depend on the newspapers for everything and do remember.
County Candidates become state legislators and U.S. Senators then eventually (sigh) President, some much sooner then others...
Peace.

7. This site is getting a bit stale. Local issues are fine, but there is a lot else happening on a larger scale, but no coverage over here in sight ??
8. Covering local races is fine, but at least make some effort to put things in context or explain why it's relevant. The readership of this blog is primarily WA conservatives who are well informed politically. But even in that population, I doubt more than 5% have heard of Vern Little. So clue us in. :)
9. He's the guy that sells insurance on late night TV commercials and part time politician
10. I'm pretty sure that's Vern Fonk. And the super annoying guy in the commercials is an actor, I believe.
That said, if Vern Fonk was running for county council in snoco, then this story would rise to the level of slightly interesting/relevant. :)
11. So, KDS, where were you when Eric was getting hammered for covering national politics? The "whine" then is that is wasn't Puget Sound Politics.
12. You are exactly right to cover local elections. As mentioned above, school board members become city council members, who become legislators, who become US Senators - remember the Mom in Tennis Shoes started as a school board member.
I was talking to Doug Roulstone the other day asking him to run for this seat (unfortunatly he is waist deep in his business), because we need solid business people to run for local offices. I know they don't pay well, but without these resume builders they loose to "moms in tennis shoes".

That's actually not true. I believe County Council seats in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties pay very well. Close to 6 figures if I'm not mistaken.
