Big Seattle Book Sale This Weekend

Here are the details.  And here's a description from a few years ago.  I plan to go, but may not be there both days.

1. To repeat: Dozens of pallet boxes of unsold books from a previous sale were slimed into pulped fiction and nonfiction. Perhaps that was the most efficient and cost-effective way for SPL to dispose of your dollars, but perhaps there was a better way.

And perhaps there's a better way for Greg Nickels to balance SPL's budget than to furlough workers and to shut down libraries. Go to SPL's online catalogue. Note that SPL buys trash movies and pop-music CDs by the bushel or by the pallet box. Further note that many of those DVDs and CDs are lost (stolen) or missing (stolen).

Then ask SPL and Nickels to do the math. Perhaps shutdowns could be avoided by imposing some standards and some restraint on the purchase of pop-culture artifacts that are being bought with our dollars to supplement private collections.
